March 27, 2022

‘Credit Co-operative Societies are vital in the Co-operative sector’

Mysore/Mysuru: Maintaining that Credit Co-operative Societies are a vital cog in the Co-operative sector, Karnataka Credit Co-operative Societies Federation Chairperson Lalitha G.T. Devegowda said that it is important for every member of a society to nurture the society with determination and dedication.

She was speaking after inaugurating the one-day training workshop for Heads and CEOs of Credit Co-operative Societies of Mysuru district, at Sahakara Bhavan on Chamaraja Double Road here yesterday.

The workshop was organised in association with Karnataka State Co-operative Federation, Bengaluru, Mysuru District Co-operative Union and Co-operation Department.

Cautioning the Credit Co-operative Societies against any lapses, she said that procedural functioning is key for the growth of Co-operative Societies.

District Co-operative Union President and MUDA Chairman H.V. Rajeev, who presided, referred to reports in a section of the press on irregularities in some Co-operative Societies.

Pointing out that there are about 46,000 registered Co-operative Societies in the State, Rajeev said that it is wrong to wholly blame the sector for lapses and wrong doings by a few Co-operative Societies.

Noting that the Co-operative sector is a service sector, one should remember that the sector has provided jobs to scores of people in the country.

District Co-operative Union Vice-President B.N. Sadananda, in his address, said that the Union Government has for the first time set up a Co-operative Ministry in order to give a big  boost to the sector, which plays a vital role in rural economy.

Highlighting the benefits of the establishment of the Ministry, he said that it will help the Co-operative Societies move in the right direction and thereby gain more strength for pushing                       up the economy.
