Author-reader meet sees many happy moments

May 16, 2022

Mysore/Mysuru: The author, Dr. Sudha Murty, met her readers last evening in Mysuru where she happily autographed many books loved by her readers. While many young children proudly displayed their autographed books, Sudha Murty asked them never to give up their reading habit. “Reading is one of the most beautiful habits. The more we read, the more we will understand about others. Books are one of the best sources of knowledge. If you don’t read, you are really missing something in your life,” she said.

The former Chairperson of Infosys Foundation and the current Chairperson of Murty Foundation, Dr. Sudha Murty was in city yesterday as the chief guest at the 93rd Graduation Day of MMC&RI. After the event, she went to Crossword Book Store at Forum Mall where the author-reader event was organised.

There were many fans waiting for her at the bookstore. After exchanging pleasantries, the fans requested Dr. Sudha Murty to autograph their copies of her books. The author readily agreed and signed many books. She even posed for photos and selfies with the readers. Seeing Dr. Sudha Murty, many other visitors to the bookstore bought her books just to get them author-autographed.

Later speaking to Star of Mysore, she said that during COVID, many children were glued to mobile phones and TVs. There is an urgent need to wean them away from gadgets. Books are the best for this and this is the reason why the programme was organised.

She said that over 33 lakh copies of her English books have been sold in India. “I believe that if a child is given a book, the little one will surely read it and that is how the reading habit is cultivated. Parents and teachers have a great role to play,” she said.

She said, “This lesson should be given to children through elders. Restrict television and mobile phones and discuss books with your children,” she told parents.

Notably at the event, some of the readers were the employees of Infosys Mysore, the company Founded by her husband N.R. Narayana Murthy.

On Hebbal Lake

Star of Mysore drew Dr. Sudha Murty’s attention towards the deteriorating state of the rejuvenated Hebbal Lake that was given a new lease of life by Infosys Foundation, she said, “We have spent nearly Rs. 105 crore to rejuvenate and give a new look to the Hebbal Lake and soon after rejuvenation, hundreds of migratory birds flocked the Lake. But now, reports of sewage and industrial effluents entering the Lake daily have come to my notice. Unfortunately the Lake has not been put to good use. I will visit the Lake soon.”

What has she achieved, except basking in enormous wealth of her husband, who ran an IT sweatshop called Infosys, employing Indian IT techies using cheap labour to carry out the outsourced coding work using the USD-INR exchange rate differential? Her daughter evades British taxes, bringing Indian -style corruption into Britain.
People like her are the new VIPs in India. That shows the moral weakness of the country.
Creating IT tech coolies through cheap IT labour is all her foundation’s achievement.
One would have appreciate, had she instituted scholarships for 2000 students or donated 30 crores to upgrade Cheluvamba Hopsital facilities.

  2. Sam says:

Your achievement is nothing more than leaving a comment here, period !

  3. koppal boregowda says:

    @Sam
You can’t do long comment either , dimwit, a your brain has not got enough cells!

  4. Q says:

    @ koppal
@Sam is a typical third world wastrel with a very tiny brain as you have guessed!

  5. Nikhil says:

@Sam! I have a distant cousin who lives in Mysore. Very good hearted soul always trying to help others in need. But personally a miserable failure from material standpoint. Being the only son his parents were well-off and wanted him to study engineering. But he became a PhD aka Passed with high difficulty in tenth standard. All his classmates became engineers or doctors and he still got stuck in PUC. His relatives constantly looking down upon him and comparing his life to his classmates made him hate all the successful people. His father died with this worry and he hated doctors too! Unfortunately he has some friends who have the same profile like his. Now he has very few friends and their daily routine consists of posting some comments in many English and kannada news papers. He has a strong opinion against IT jobs, especially Infosys, wipro, TCS. Accenture etc and he thinks (or assumes) that they hire coding coolie workers. According to him only Sir MV is the only true engineer from India. He not only hates IT but even the employers because in the back of mind they are responsible for his predicament that people compare him with his friends. Sometimes they pretend like they are in USA, Australia or Europe, but they are just the unsuccessful versions of Drone Pratap. Atleast Pratap was successful in conning some people .
So, you should learn to ignore these losers and move forward. You may never know who they , but they always know they are total losers. The more stupid they are the more they try to abuse others. Remember, humility is very difficult to attain if one truly knows they are inferior.

  6. Q says:

    @Nikhil
You sound like you too are a loser, just like your friend. The story you narrate about your friend sounds like yours!
Is that all you can contribute to the story reported above? Mrs Murthy will send you a cheque for 10,000 Rupee, nevertheless!
I have no doubt you are another third world wastrel! At least you told the truth about Sir MV, who was not a IT tech coolies, calling himself a software engineer, doing mundane coding work so that Mrs Murthy can become even more rich!

  7. koppal boregowda says:

    Hello Nikhil
You must be really a genius. How did you find out posters like me or @Q are not really living abroad?
BTW, could you name one innovation that InfoSys or Wipro have produced in software?
Even with your genius brain, you cannot even fathom that for the salary of 1 European or American IT techie, Infosys or Wipro can employ at least 8 Indian techies-just look at the Euro/USD conversion to INR. What do you call these Indian IT techies in the above companies who do coding 24/7?Keep posting your pearls of wisdom, with more stories!

  8. Kawakawaffoxgowda says:

    Hi Nikhil
Your friend sounds clever than you! Can you name an engineer from India who achieved more than Sir MV? Here , in the West, even a mediocre programmer -an IT techie can earn $40K as a minimum. What is the equivalent salary like in Infosys/Wipro? You will then know why those IT techies’ labour is cheap.-IT coolie work!
Where did you get your degree? UOM? That caste-centric cesspit?!!
You see, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Jonathan Ive -who designed the I Phone, Logie Baird who invented the TV and Stephenson, who produced steam engine-arguably the most innovative invention that had repercussions on Travel ,industry automation 2 centuries ago, did not get a degree. Unlike you, but like your PUC friend , they were cleverer.
Oh, BTW, it is: “According to him Sir MV is the only true engineer from India”. There you go, your worthless degree!!

  9. Mysore says:

It always debatable whether IT companies are good or bad but one cannot deny that they are providing jobs to millions of people in India directly and indirectly. India produces lakhs of graduates in various streams every year. Because of these IT companies many graduates are at least getting some job. Infosys may be bad but once a person gets in to it they at least get some basic corporate exposure and that opens further more avenues for that person.

    Hello Nikhil,
Please ignore the unsavoury and crude comments.

  11. Queue says:

Some valid points raised @Nikhil and @Mysore.

  12. Kopplu says:

Points to ponder Nikhil and Mysore

  13. Sam says:

@Nikhil . wow! You must have touched a raw nerve of somebody! Some responses show that all there multiple personalities(probably of the same person with a disorder) are deeply disturbed and pissed off ! I will take your advise to ignore them all! One thing that upset me was why they were targeting Sudha Murthy? She did not have a necessity to involve in social service or donate or help the covid victims or poor children! like so many other rich politicians like Gowdas, lalu or DKS or Chidambaram etc! who just keep building their empire using the crisis itself as their source of income! Infosys has not earned money by any illegal means! At least to the best of our knowledge! Some people were spreading a rumor that they got free land in Mysore from the government but Narayana Murthy himself came on two TV channels and clarified that he got it from Market place at the open market cost paying a premium!
Some people who claim they are working in the west call others coolies! That is so contradictory because in West they have dignity of labor and do not abuse others based on their profession! This seems to agree with your cousin’s syndrome of assuming some other personality for self defense! If they are really working in the west, they must be on a minimum wage and are unable to handle the depression!
From their definition, I too joined Infosys via a campus selection. I can assure you, Mysore university did not discriminate against me and I could maintain a god merit through out even though I came from a Lower middle class family background ! So, in their words I joined as a ‘coding coolie’ and the training was challenging and many dropped out before completion of the training! Later I was sent to Newyork for a client site at NY for a Financial firm, later was hired by them. Just recently , I joined Amazon AWS the package I got is beyond my dreams! Now you can decide if I should regret my ‘coding coolie’ experience was good or not! May be the SOM commentators who did not join infosys invented a lot of new things that we coolies who are working on the cutting edge technologies are not aware of! They should enlighten the public with their inventions so the humanity can reap the benefits! For me, getting my first job at Infosys made me independent and I could support my parents instead of leaching out of their retirement savings!
Another observation! A handful of dropouts were inventors! They did not become inventors because they dropped out! The Inventor in them did not want to be distracted by formal education! So, dropping out is not the pre-requisite for invention! Also everybody need not invent something! I am just happy with what I am doing and grateful for my opportunities!!
