Bengaluru: Putting an end to the confusions over ZP and TP polls, the Karnataka High Court yesterday set the State Government a 12-week deadline for the completion of redrawing of constituencies and formulation of Reservation Matrix for Zilla Panchayats (ZPs) and Taluk Panchayats (TPs).
Hearing a plea by the State Election Commission (SEC), a Division Bench headed by Chief Justice Ruturaj Awasthi also said that the Government must not seek any more time in this regard.
During the hearing, the State Advocate General Prabhuling K. Navadagi submitted a memo that the State Government has formed a Commission headed by a retired HC Judge for formulation of Reservation Matrix in ZPs and TPs. The SEC Advocate K.N. Phanindra observed that 8 to 12 weeks time was sufficient for redrawing and reservation. As such, the Government must not repeatedly seek an extension of time, he argued.
After hearing the arguments, the Bench set a 12-week deadline to the State Government, before adjourning the hearing.
