Mysore/Mysuru: A couple lost their hard-earned savings to two individuals who promised two house sites on Ramanuja Road. The couple was taken to the Sub-Registrar’s Office where a fraudulent registration was done with fabricated documents after taking Rs. 38 lakh from them. The couple has now approached the Krishnaraja Police Station.

H.R. Ramesh, a retired employee of J.K. Tyre and a resident of Ramanuja Road and his wife B.G. Malathi, a retired BSNL employee, have accused Raghavendra Shet, a resident of Ramakrishnanagar E and F Block and Siddaraju, a resident of K.R. Mohalla of cheating and lodged the complaint.

The couple had one Javaramma as the housemaid and she was working at their house for over 20 years. When Javaramma was aged and was not in a position to work, her daughter Bhagya took over her place. Bhagya soon earned the trust of the couple and after some months, she asked for a loan of Rs. 12.50 lakh.

As her mother was serving them for 20 years and trusting Bhagya, the couple paid Rs. 12.50 lakh as a loan. After some months when they asked for repayment, Bhagya told them that she had given the money to one Siddaraju who was not returning the money and as such, she had informed one Raghavendra Shet to make Siddaraju pay up.

Bhagya even introduced Raghavendra Shet to the couple and he told them that it was not easy to make Siddaraju pay up. He demanded Rs. 3 lakh for the task and as the couple was fed up and was scared of losing Rs. 12.50 lakh, they agreed to pay Rs. 3 lakh and accordingly, issued a cheque.

After negotiating with Siddaraju, Raghavendra Shet told Ramesh and Malathi couple that Siddaraju does not have money but has two house sites on Ramanuja Road, each measuring 30×40.

The couple was told that Siddaraju would register the two sites in their name in lieu of the money. Ramesh and Malathi agreed and as they were residents of the same road, they felt that they had got a good deal.

Later, a price of Rs. 38 lakh was fixed and the couple promptly paid the money. On July 28, 2021, the couple was asked to come to Mysuru South Sub-Registrar Office and Siddaraju and Raghavendra Shet ‘registered’ two plots in the name of H.R. Ramesh and B.G. Malathi (the couple). But Siddaraju and Raghavendra Shet did not show any documents for the claim that the former owned the plots.

The couple was promised by Raghavendra Shet that the original documents would be shown in some days. The couple later realised that the registration at Sub-Registrar’s office was made using a fake document. Following this revelation, the couple lodged a Police complaint                                                           at K.R. Police Station.

Inspector Mahadevaswamy told SOM that the complaint has been registered and investigation is on. Siddaraju and Raghavendra Shet have not been arrested yet, he added.
