Mysore/Mysuru: Sri Ramakrishna Vidyashala, Yadavagiri, has organised a musical evening by eminent vocalist Brajeshwar Mukherjee from Kolkata and a flute recital by Ravi Shankar Mishra at its premises on Aug. 5 at 5.15 pm.

They will be accompanied on tabla by Gourisankar (Texas, USA) and on harmonium by Veerabhadraiah Hiremath.

Brajeshwar Mukherjee is a well-known Hindustani classical vocalist from Kolkata, a disciple of eminent vocalist, Padma Bhushan Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty. He has found popularity with lovers of music from all around the world through his radio programmes, live performances and albums. A recipient of many awards and honours, Brajeshwar currently serves as a junior guru at ITC Sangeeth Research Academy and at Shrutinandan.

Gourisankar, born in a family of musicians has been studying tabla since the age of 3, under the guidance of his father Shiv Shankar Karmakar. Since 1979, he has been under the tutelage of Pandit Sankha Chatterjee. He is also an ‘A’ grade artiste of All India Radio. In 2008, he established the School of Indian Percussion and Music in Austin, Texas. Gourisankar has collaborated with world famous musicians in the world music genre, like the legendary drummer Steve Smith, steelpan player Liam Teague, Grammy winner kora player Mamadou Diabate and Hammond organ player Tony Monaco.

Sur Mani Ravi Shankar Mishra is one of the finest flautists of the young generation. He started his music lessons with his father Pandit Dinesh Chandra Mishra. In 1994, he was fortunate to be accepted as a disciple of flute maestro Pandit Nityanand Haldipur (Mumbai) who belongs to the lineage of legendary flautist Pandit Pannalal Ghosh. He has been fortunate to receive guidance from late Padma Bhushan Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan whom he reveres as his mentor and guide.

He is a regular performer for Yoga students and music lovers. Ravi has performed extensively in India and abroad. He has also performed at UNESCO (Paris). He has collaborated with many jazz musicians from USA and many leading musicians. Apart from being a versatile flautist, he is also a very sincere and dedicated guru and a master craftsman of Indian bamboo flutes.
