He was murdered for blackmailing girl from Nanjangud taluk

Nanjangud: Biligere Police, who were investigating the case of a farmer from Haveri, who had gone missing in Nanjangud taluk have solved the case by arresting two persons for murdering the farmer.

The deceased farmer has been identified as Chandragowda (25) of Heerehalli village in Haveri district. During investigation, the Police came to know that Chandragowda had blackmailed a girl from Nanjangud taluk and had utilised her sexually. He (Chandragowda) had also made a video of the act and has sent it to the girl’s brother following which the girl’s brother summoned Chandragowda to Nanjangud taluk and murdered him.

Chandragowda, who had come to Nanjangud taluk on Nov. 20, 2022 had gone missing and one Manjappa of T. Narasipur taluk, who knew Chandragowda had lodged a missing complaint at Biligere Police Station on Dec. 29.

Biligere Sub-Inspector T. Arathi, who took up the investigation, took two persons who were with Chandragowda on the day he went missing into custody and interrogated them during which they spilled the beans.

Investigation revealed that the daughter of Chandragowda’s uncle, who was pursuing her education at a residential school in T. Narasipur taluk had added the name of Chandragowda to the students’ online education Whatsapp group during COVID pandemic.

Chandragowda, who downloaded the Nanjangud taluk girl’s photos from the group, edited the photos by superimposing it on nude photos, sent the edited photos to the girl’s Whatsapp number and began to blackmail her. He (Chandragowda) then summoned the girl to a lodged in Mysuru, where he sexually assaulted her and even made videos and took pictures of the act.

A few days later, when the girl’s brother began to use his sister’s SIM card, he began receiving naked photos of his sister and also videos of Chandragowda’s sexual act with her. When he questioned Chandragowda about it, he is said to have told the girl’s brother that it was just a sample.

The girl’s brother then contacted Manjappa of T, Narasipur taluk, who knew Chandragowda and told him to advice him. But still Chandragowda did not stop sending the photos following which the girl’s brother again contacted Manjappa and told him that he would get his sister married to Chandragowda. He told Manjappa that he would get a puja performed to stop Chandragowda  from blackmailing his sister and asked Manjappa to summon Chandragowda.

On Nov. 20, when Chandragowda came near Varuna along with Manjappa, the girl’s brother along with one of his relative came there and told them to come near Aldur Gate. They somehow managed to leave Manjappa in T. Narasipur taluk and the Girl’s brother along with his relative and Chandragowda consumed liquor. They then murdered Chandragowda, put the body in a gunny bag and threw it into Kabini River near the new bridge.

Sub-Inspector Arathi, who converted the missing case into a murder case, has arrested the two accused.
