Bengaluru: High Court Judge V. Kameswar Rao, also the Executive Chairman of Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA), has said a total of 40 lakh cases (40,03,411 cases) were disposed of and Rs. 2,640 crore relief amount was settled, during the recent National Lok Adalat.

He was addressing media persons at the office of Legal Services Authority, at the premises of High Court recently.

Providing a break-up of the cases solved, Justice Rao said, a total of 2,64,675 pending cases including in the High Court and Trial Courts and 37,38,766 pre-litigation cases in Trial Courts, were disposed of. The pending cases at the High Court benches in Bengaluru, Dharwad and Kalaburagi numbering 701 cases, 434 and 520 cases respectively, totalling 1,655 cases were also solved, added Justice Rao.

A total of 1,033 benches had been opened including 1,016 benches in district and taluk-levels and nine in Bengaluru bench of HC, five in Dharwad and three in Kalaburagi bench, for the purpose of Lok Adalat.

That apart, 9,00,935 disputes related to property taxes were also solved, resulting in generating a revenue of Rs. 694 crore to the State exchequer, for the Government extending the deadline to pay property tax with rebate till July 31, 2024, upon the request of KSLSA, added Justice Rao.

The other cases solved include- 1,550 matrimony cases, reconciliation of 259 couples, who agreed to reunite, ignoring the differences among them, 3,356 cases related to partition and 5,220 claims related to motor vehicle accidents, providing a relief amount of Rs. 260 crore. Besides, 11,155 cheque bounce cases under Negotiable Instruments Act, have been resolved.

The parties in dispute have finally heaved a sigh of relief, with Rs. 101 crore relief amount provided in 261 land acquisition cases, followed by ordering to pay compensation of up to Rs. 60 crore in 897 cases related to motor vehicles. Besides, 3,769 other cases have also been solved and a compensation of Rs. 118 crore has been provided.

A total of 15 cases related to Real Estate Regulation Authority (RERA) have also been settled, providing a relief amount of Rs. 1.22 crore, added Justice Rao.
