Mysore/Mysuru: Niranthara Foundation, Mysuru, in association with Rangavalli Troupe, Mysuru and Kannada and Culture Directorate, Bengaluru, is presenting the play “Party,” written by renowned playwright Mahesh Elkunchwar (whose Kannada translation has been done by Prasad Kundur) on Apr. 25 and 26 at Kiru Rangamandira (Mini Theatre) in Kalamandira premises. The show will begin at 7 pm on both days.

The play Directed by Chidambara Rao Jambe has Lighting design by Jeevan Kumar B. Heggodu, Stage setup by Madhu NSD and Music by B.K. Kiran. Ticket is priced at Rs.100.

Mahesh Elkunchwar, the playwright of this work, is one of the leading voices in modern Indian theatre. His works deeply explore human relationships, existential questions and the moral complexities of the intellectual class.

The play “Party” unfolds in the setting of a social gathering, where conversations among writers, artistes and intellectuals reveal their egos, rivalries, failures, and inner conflicts.

What appears to be casual dialogue gradually exposes the emptiness within individuals, the collapse of social masks, and their alienation from society.

Prasad Kundur, who has translated this work into Kannada, has been actively involved in Kannada theatre for over four decades. He has contributed as an actor, director, playwright, singer and stage designer. His translation preserves the essence of the original while adapting it to suit the Kannada cultural context. Through Niranthara Foundation, he continues to engage younger audiences in meaningful theatrical dialogue.

Noted theatre personality Chidambara Rao Jambe, who has served as a faculty member at the National School of Drama (NSD) and as Director of Rangayana, Mysuru, has directed numerous plays across India in multiple languages, including Kannada and Hindi.

In “Party,” he skilfully integrates dialogue, psychological depth of characters, and stage design to create a sensitive theatrical experience.  Through this production, Niranthara Foundation aims to bring contemporary intellectual and cultural discussions to the stage.
