Mysore/Mysuru: Dr. N.C. Rangacharyulu, a legendary Karnatak vocalist and a torch-bearer of Indian classical music from Hyderabad, will be presenting two vocal concerts in city this week:
On May 6, at Veene Seshanna Bhavana in Kuvempunagar, his concert will start at 6 pm. He will be accompanied by Vid. T.K.V. Ramanujacharyulu on violin, Vid. Mysore A. Radhesh on mridanga and Vid. S. Manjunath on ghata.
On May 7, at Mysore Vasudevacharya’s residence in Agrahara, the tribute to the great composer is scheduled to start at 10.30 am. Accompanists include Vid. T.K.V. Ramanujacharyulu on violin and Prof. G.S. Ramanujam on mridanga. Both the concerts are open to all music-lovers.
Profiles: Dr. Rangacharyulu, a Top-Grade Artiste of Akashvani, is known for his mastery, authentic and scholarly approach to ragas and compositions. He has been performing for several decades at National Programmes, Sangeet Sammelans and in prestigious Sabhas across India, earning acclaim for his soulful renditions and keeping alive the purity of Karnatak music.
As a dedicated guru, he has mentored hundreds of students, many of whom are now performing artistes, ensuring the continuity of Karnatak music. His sons, N.C.S. Varada Raju and N.C. Madhav, are both well-known artistes, graded high in AIR.
Vid. Ramanujacharyulu, a staff artiste of Akashvani Tiruchirappalli, is one of the most sought-after violinists in the Karnatak music field today. An A-top ranked artiste, he has been giving solo performances and also been providing accompaniment to top ranking vocalists and instrumentalists all over India and abroad for over three decades now.
He has performed in numerous National Programmes and Akashvani Sangeet Sammelana concerts. He has conducted various music programmes for the AIR, including the popular weekly series ‘Sadhguru Sri Thyagaraja Krithi Vilakkam,’ explaining the lyrical beauty, inner meaning and the distinctive musical greatness of Sri Thyagaraja’s compositions.
Prof. Ramanujam, Vid. Radhesh and Vid. Manjunath are all leading percussionists, having accompanied senior artistes in the field for decades now.
