Dasara Milking Contest: Bengaluru cow yields 34.650 kg milk, stands first

Mysuru: The Jeevannarayana Katte, famous as J.K. Grounds, was the centre of attraction yesterday where a cow milking competition was held as part of Raitha Dasara festivities. Many farmers had come with their cows from far and wide and participated in the competition that was held as the valedictory of Raitha Dasara.

Ravikumar, a farmer from Bengaluru bagged the first place in the competition after he milked 34 kg 650 grams of milk from his Holstein Friesian cow. B.S. Muniraju from Nelamangala bagged second prize after he milked 31 kg 950 grams of milk from his Holstein Friesian cow.

The cow owned by Mariyamma of Kyathamaranahalli in Mysuru yielded 31 kg 900 grams of milk and stood third in the competition and the cow owned by Shankar Arvind of Kuvempunagar yielded 31 kg 600 grams of milk and stood fourth in the competition.

Ravikumar who bagged the first prize was given a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 along with a memento and a certificate, Rs. 40,000 was given to Muniraju, Rs. 30,000 to Mariyamma as third prize and Rs. 10,000 was given to Shankar Arvind as a consolation prize along with a memento and a certificate.

Prizes were distributed by Mysuru City Corporation Deputy Mayor Rathna Lakshman. Corporator D. Nagabhushan, Raitha Dasara Sub-Committee Chairman Chouhalli Puttaswamy, Vice-President Hirehalli Somesh, Joint Director of Agriculture K.M. Somasundar and Zoo Veterinarian Dr. Manjunath were present.
