To capture and tame rogue elephants

Kushalanagar: Three tamed elephants from Dubare Elephant Camp and three from Mattigodu Camp have been shifted to Chhattisgarh yesterday to capture and tame rogue elephants which are creating havoc there.

Eighteen-year-old Parashuram, 27-year-old Ajay and 25-year-old Theertharam from Dubare Elephant Camp and the other three from Mattigodu Camp were given a send off yesterday as they boarded trucks to travel to Chhattisgarh.

As per the order from the State Government and directions from DFO Surya Sen, ACF M.S. Chinnappa led the mahouts, who found it very difficult to make the elephants board the trucks.

ACF Chinnappa said that three elephants from Dubare were being shifted as per the order from the State Government.

Kushalanagar RFO Arun, Dubare Forest Officer Ranjan, Dr. Majeed, mahouts and others were present.

Mahouts oppose shifting of their elephants

Unable to bear the separation from their elephants, mahouts Urune, Jaya and Annaiah, who opposed the shifting of their elephants, were seen with tears in their eyes and did not come to board the elephants to the trucks that had arrived. It was only after the Forest officials convinced them, the mahouts came and boarded the elephants to the trucks. Chhattisgarh CCF C.S. Tiwari and Trainer Ramakrishna, led the Forest officials and mahouts from Chhattisgarh, who accompanied the elephants to their State.
