It was this day, nay this very evening, 40 years ago that STAR OF MYSORE was born in this city as an Evening English Newspaper. Happily it continues to be your favourite eveninger.
From this evening, we will be entering 41st year of our publication. And as we do so, we gratefully remember all those who made it possible to reach this milestone and salute them with gratitude and humility.
Bringing out a special issue on our anniversary has been a tradition with us ever since the beginning of this newspaper. We are indeed beholden to our readers and advertisers for making this possible.
We have been following all along an independent editorial policy without aligning ourselves with any political party, community, group, ideology or vested interest and this policy will continue. Our first editorial titled “A Star Is Born” which is printed alongside, declares this policy more eloquently.
As a newspaper, we strongly believe our survival depends solely on our usefulness to the society and on the service we render to our readers and advertisers. Which is why we take up just causes and important issues in a crusading spirit to protect readers’ interest while widening our readership base. And advertisers get VALUE for their money. After all, it is the credibility of STAR OF MYSORE as a brand and its pulling-power that should matter to our advertisers rather than the cost of advertising.
On this occasion, we also remember the truth that change is a constant in any organisation that wishes to grow — not just survive. And we are bracing ourselves for an array of changes from our pre-press to our printing technology. All this to ensure continuation of your addiction to STAR OF MYSORE — for all the news of Namma Cheluva Mysuru. We have learned contributors who provide their expert views on issues current and of common interest. This is in addition to our weekly supplement on subjects of special interest.
Welcome. Sit back, relax, make yourself a nice cuppa and experience your reading pleasure every evening. Please feel free to give us your feedback on and perception of STAR OF MYSORE.
And finally a big “Thank You” — to our subscribers, advertisers, contributors, our staff, our agents and paper delivery boys who together have teamed up to make STAR OF MYSORE a success story among evening newspapers in India. A very good evening to You.
the growth of som starting from a small press near kamaakshi hospital (- it has grown so much i nevr missed to read it whether in india or abroad. my day used to end only when i read som. thanks som. you have achieved this marvellous milestone.
I wish SOM a very happy 40th year and many more successful years to come. SOM has been part of my life since I was school going girl, learning to read and write English. My Grand father who was retired scientist, having awesome English language knowledge, made sure we joined English medium schools. As well, every evening once SOM issue reached home, he made sure I read it out loudly for him. His intention of making our reading better not only worked but I got habituated to it as I grew up. Now, that I am married moved away to USA, am glad SOM is growing too and SOM website is where I start my day, everyday! Thank you SOM for being a part of my life and making me feel connected to Mysore no matter how far I am.
Great going SOM!! having grown up in Mysore during the 90’s, SOM is one of the newspapers to look forward to in the evenings… Those days, having a cup of coffee with SOM in the evenings… a thing to remember!!.. though have moved out of Mysore now for work, still in touch with your website… Thanks
Congratulations to SOM for completing 40 years of publishing! Its amazing to see a local English daily surviving and growing strong in the midst of big national and state daily news papers. I am happy that most of the articles are of high quality and readable. Though the editorial board claims that they are neutral, sometimes we get the smell of inclining towards a particular party! This was evident in inviting a politician for the 40th anniversary!! Anyway such feelings are nullified with the cartoons of Sathish Acharya and articles of TJS George. As I already wrote sometime back, Sathish Acharya’s cartoons are world class and very impartial!
I have been reading this news paper since at least 3 decade! Congratulations for completing 40 years! Most of the news reports and columnists have maintained impartiality except for two, especially sincce last 4 years, especially mr T,S George and Sathish Acharya!
I was an huge fan of RK Lakshman! His view point was of a common man! He never took sides of any political parties and poked fun that even the ones he criticized would ammire ! He has made fun of Nehru , Shastriji, Morarji, indira Abdul Kalam , corrupt politicians, public figures , but he gave the picture of how they appeared to common man! On the contrary Sathish Acharya’s cartoons are Asinine, insulting and has an agenda and clearly show where his loyalties are! Definiteltly it is not the opinion of a common man! It is like a artistic prostitution! His caricatures are good but the substance is most of the times disgusting!
I don’t believe, SOM pays to spew his personal venom on the public space! Overall it is a disgrace!
TS George is another columnist whose only agenda is to support Congress and communist parties!
His RSS,BJP,Modi hatred comes out do strong in his writings that in the heat of hating Modi, he even undermined our soldiers during Doklam standoff and tried to even to demoralize our soldiers! That was the plan of the congress backed media! For him truth does not matter! Every murder, accident or death is the handiwork of Hindu extremists, RSS, BJP ! When BJp people are killed in Kerala or Bangalore, it does not count! On Gauri Lankesh and Kalburgi murder, he eloquently accused BJP, RSS and Hindu nationalists with no proof! He becomes the judge and the jury! Fine times his ‘Facts’ comes from south china monitor, sometimes it comes from PAk news media! Other times it comes from communists or Congress! I don’t know what he thinks about his writing, but it reeks bias and hatred! Once he unknowingly called Modi an ‘Enemy ‘ ! That day I realized Modi must be doing something good!
Congratulations to SOM for survived so long in spite of such people as their staff. All other columnists are fair and reasonable!
