ACB traps Revenue Inspector, Village Accountant at Taluk Office

December 16, 2020

They were accepting bribe from a farmer for issuing Khata

Mysore/Mysuru: Sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) have caught two Revenue Department employees red-handed while receiving bribe from a farmer for routine official work.

Revenue Inspector K.S. Anil Kumar and Village Accountant Satish were trapped by the ACB team at Taluk Office in Mysuru late on Tuesday. They were caught soon after accepting Rs. 30,000 as bribe.

The officers had demanded money to change a Khata in the petitioner’s name.

While Anil Kumar is a Revenue Inspector from Varuna Hobli, Satish is a Village Accountant of Chikkahalli. The duo was caught by ACP Dy.SP H. Parashuramappa and team.

Selva Shekar, a resident of Belakavadi in Malavalli Taluk, had purchased some land at Varuna village and in order to make a Khata for the land, he approached Village Accountant Satish who demanded Rs. 40,000. Making a Khata is a routine government work and officers are bound to do this work in a fixed time-frame.

Satish took Selva Shekar to Revenue Inspector Anil Kumar and explained the nature of work and the amount that has to be paid. The money was settled at Rs. 40,000 and Selva was asked to pay an advance of Rs. 10,000 which he did.

After some days, Selva Shekar called up Satish and asked him about the Khata transfer. Satish replied to him that he had to come to the Taluk Office and speak to Anil Kumar. He again demanded money and Selva had recorded the phone conversation between him and Satish. Later, Selva called Satish again and told him that Rs. 30,000 was ready and he would come to Taluk Office with the money.

Meanwhile, Selva lodged a complaint with the ACB along with the proof of the audio where the bribe money was demanded. Selva was asked to come to the Taluk Office yesterday after 5.30 pm and accordingly, he came there at 6 pm.

As the ACB team had laid a trap, the officers were caught red-handed while accepting Rs. 30,000.

Satish and Anil Kumar have been arrested and the bribe money has been seized. Further investigation is on.
