Mysuru: Dr. G. Muralikrishna, former Chief Scientist and Head, Department of Biochemistry, was awarded the prestigious Life-time Achievement Award by the Association of Carbohydrate Chemists and Technologists (ACCT), India, at the 33rd Annual Conference held at IISER, Kolkata, last month. ACCT (I) honours annually since 2003 the most successful chemists, biologists and technologists in the country who have been working in the area of glycoscience. The award includes a citation, shawl, memento and cash prize of Rs. 75,000 sponsored by Lucid Hydrocolloids Ltd., Mumbai.
Dr. Muralikrishna has extensively worked on food carbohydrates and their degrading enzymes at CSIR-CFTRI for more than 37 years and his work is internationally recognised through his publications. He served as reviewer for more than 20 international journals. He has guided 14 Ph.D candidates and published over 75 publications in peer-reviewed International journals. He was granted four Indian patents and one US patent. He is the recipient of several awards such as Venus International Foundation Life-time Achievement Award 2017, ACCT (I) Carbohydrate Excellence Award (2013), Laljee-Godhoo Smarak Nidhi Award (2002), AFST (I) Fellow (2008), CFTRI Best Scientist Award (2009) and Best Paper Award in basic sciences (2005).
He served CFTRI in several committees as Chairman and member during his service. He was the Head, Biochemistry for 21 months during which the Department of Biochemistry was awarded the Best R&D Department in CFTRI for the year 2017. His Ph.D students are well-placed in USA, Europe and India in various Universities and Industries. He superannuated in Feb. 2018 from CSIR-CFTRI.
