Accused found stealing, kills innocent boy

May 23, 2017

Mysuru: The Police, who refused to divulge the details regarding the murder of 14-year-old Shashank of K.R. Pet taluk, yesterday morning, have revealed that it is indeed a case relating to IPL cricket betting. However, there is a twist in the story.

The murder accused Dikshit, 18, and another student who were arrested, have spilled the beans that it was indeed the betting racket that they were involved in that made them commit such a heinous crime.

Dikshit, studying in a Polytechnic College in K.R. Pet taluk, became addicted to IPL betting and lost a lot of money. As he had to repay the bookies, the only way out for him was to resort to crime and on May 15,he has gone to Shashank’s house to steal valuables.

Shashank has identified Dikshit and worried that his (Dikshit) identity would be revealed, he has dragged the innocent boy out, hit him on the neck and killed him by strangulating him. Later, he has returned to the house, stolen jewellery, Shashank’s mobile phone and escaped.

He has pawned it in K.R. Pet itself. The Police who came to know that Shashank’s mobile phone is missing, found that it was with another person. On questioning the person who owned the mobile, he told them that he had bought it from the pawnbroker. The Police immediately traced Dikshit and arrested him. They are on the lookout for other persons, if any, in this betting racket and further investigations are on.

SP Sudheer Kumar, speaking to Star of Mysore said, “the accused Dikshit scared that his identity would be revealed as he was caught stealing, killed Shashank, strangulating him. During the investigation, Dikishit revealed the truth.”
