Address parthenium and garbage menace in vacant sites

June 17, 2017

Sir,

In CFTRI Layout (Bogadi 2nd Stage), there are a number of residential sites vacant since almost two decades and most     of them have become filthy  dump-yards and an eyesore to the residents.

Parthenium and other bushy plants have grown profusely in many vacant sites making it a breeding ground for mosquitoes and a haven for rodents and snakes.

The picture above shows the appalling condition of the 1st and 2nd Cross of 5th Main Road.

Similar scene exists in many other areas of the Layout too.  Parthenium being a major biological pollutant of our environs can pose serious threats to the health, safety and well-being of residents and children in particular.

The question that remains unanswered: Who will clear up this mess?  No doubt, the onus of keeping the vacant sites clean lies on the owners.  They seem to be negligent and least bothered. MUDA and MCC are very much aware that the killer dengue cases are on the increase in and around Mysuru and still if they turn a blind eye on this issue,  it would put people’s lives in danger.

I urge the officials concerned to consider this issue seriously and see that the menace of parthenium and garbage is resolved at the earliest to clear the way for a safe and healthy living.

Citizens do pay kandaya for vacant sites as well, so it falls on MCC to clear this mess.
