AMRUT Mitra: MCC DAY-NULM invites Women’s SHGs

Mysore/Mysuru: AMRUT Mitra, an initiative of Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, under its AMRUT 2.0 scheme, is most likely to come in handy for Women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in the limits of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) to become financially self-reliant.

The women’s SHGs constituted under MCC — Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM) have been given an opportunity to be a part of technical and non-technical activities, to become financially independent.

With the aid of SHGs, action plan has been conceptualised under AMRUT Mitra to achieve sustainability in urban areas, supply and maintenance of drinking water network and to guarantee 100 percent maintenance of Underground Drainage (UGD) system. The guidelines have been issued with regard to the participation of women’s SHGs and the norms to be followed.

The technical works include Billing and Collection, Meter Reading, Bill Generation and Distribution, Collection of Fees, Water Users Fee, Property Tax, Repair of Leakages and Leakages in Pipeline, Basic  Infrastructural Works Related to Taps, Maintenance of Water Treatment Plants, Inspection of Quality of Water Samples, Jan Adalat, Water Related Grievances and Challenges, Beautification of Plant premises, Cleanliness, Maintenance Related To Pump House like Functioning of the Meter and Identification of Leakages.

The non-technical works include Testing of Water Quality, Using Field Testing Kits to Test the Quality Of Water in Community Based Water Quality Test, Institutional Testing of Water Quality Through Laboratory, Public Parks and Maintenance of Play Grounds.

Maximum Rs. 10 lakh Project

The women’s SHGs and federations are liable to receive a minimum of Rs. 2 lakh to a maximum Rs. 10 lakh, for each of the projects related to basic infrastructural facilities for water supply and Green Satellite project. However, the total value of projects awarded to same SHG should not exceed Rs. 30 lakh per annum. And, the SHGs entrusted with projects should compulsorily handle the task, with the restrictions on handing over sub-contract or outsourcing the job.

Guidelines

The women’s SHGs should be registered under DAY-NULM Campaign and should follow five-point programmes like holding regular meetings, savings, internal loan disbursal, regular recovery of loan and maintenance of record. At least one of the members of the SHG should have studied up to class 8 and should be digitally literate.

The SHGs should have a bank account and should not have indulged in anti-social activities. Preference will be given to the SHGs working in partnership at the Ward-level and having experience in water-based activities and constructive activities.

Expression of interest has been invited from SHGs willing to work for the implementation of technical and non-technical activities under AMRUT Mitra programme, by MCC DAY-NULM section, according to an Officer concerned, who told Star of Mysore.

Through AMRUT Mitra, the members of SHGs will be imparted special training to become self-reliant. With the increase in activities, the SHGs will also witness growth, besides ensuring effective implementation of activities related to cleanliness of Mysuru City, supply of quality drinking water and development of parks.
