Mysore/Mysuru: Morning walkers have foiled miscreants from stealing a sandalwood tree at Cheluvamba Park, near Akashvani on KRS Road in city.
Yesterday early morning, miscreants had felled a sandalwood tree at the Park and were chopping the trunk to take it away when a few morning walkers who arrived at the Park questioned them.
But the miscreants threatened them with machetes they were using to chop the trunk and asked the morning walkers to go away. But the walkers, who gathered together, opposed the miscreants and seeing a large number of morning walkers gathering together, the miscreants left the sandalwood tree behind and fled from the Park.
V.V. Puram Police, who rushed to the spot, summoned Forest Department officials to the spot, conducted mahazar and the Forest Department officials, who have registered a case, are investigating.
Meanwhile, morning walkers said that just planting saplings was not enough and it should be protected besides demanding security to morning walkers at parks.
