Mumbai/Mysuru: Dean Mervyn Jones, an Australian cricket commentator, coach and cricketer, who died after a cardiac arrest in Mumbai yesterday, had a connection with Mysuru too.
He had visited the city in 2017 to witness the Karnataka Premier League (KPL) cricket matches. At that time, he, along with Star Sports team, had visited the important tourist places.
During that time, he visited Bombay Tiffany’s Annexe, a famous sweet mart on D. Devaraj Urs Road, and had savored a variety of traditional sweets including the Mysurupak. He was said to be bowled out for the taste of the signature Mysurupak sweet and got it packed to his friends and relatives.
Jones had also paid a visit to the famous eating joints like Mylari Hotel, Hanumanthu Mess and other hotels and sweet marts across the city.
“He (Jones) had loved the Mysurupak very much. He was astonished to learn the history of the sweet and visited our factory in Vishweshwaranagar to see its preparations. He also got packed the Mysurupak for his friends,” Bombay Tiffany’s Owner Anil Kumar and his son, Aneesh Gupta, told SOM.

The 59-year-old Jones was in Mumbai as part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) broadcast set-up, and was learnt to be absolutely fine before he suffered a sudden collapse. His family, back in Australia, has been informed whereas Star India is now currently in touch with Australian High Commission to make necessary arrangements.
Dean Jones was one of the great ambassadors of the game associating himself with cricket development across South Asia. He was passionate about discovering new talents and nurturing young cricketers. He was a champion commentator whose presence and presentation of the game always brought joy to millions of fans.
Jones had played 52 international matches and scored 3,631 runs; 164 One-Day International matches and had scored 6,068 runs.
