Bal Vivah Mukt Abhiyan: Workshop on Child Marriage and POCSO Acts tomorrow

Mysore/Mysuru: A one-day workshop and awareness programme for the District and Taluk-level Child Marriage Prohibition Officers has been organised on the topic  ‘Prohibition of Child Marriage Act and POCSO Act’ at Kalamandira in the city tomorrow (Feb. 11) at 10.30 am.

The programme has been organised as part of Bal Vivah Mukt Abhiyan (Campaign against Child Marriage), by the Directorate of Child Protection in association with Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR), Bengaluru, District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Women and Child Development Department, District Child Protection Unit, Police Department, Education Department, Rural Literacy and Health Programme, Child Fund and other NGOs of the district.

Principal District and Sessions Court Judge Usha Rani, also the Chairman of DLSA, will inaugurate the programme. Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy, will preside over the event.

Child Protection Directorate Director Dr. V. Sneha, Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr. P. Shivaraju, DCP (Crime and Traffic) K.S. Sundar Raj and Deputy Director of Women and Child Development Department B. Basavaraju, will be the chief guests on the occasion.

Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer (CEO) S. Ukesh Kumar and Member of KSCPCR, S. Manju will be the guests of honour at the programme.

Senior Civil Judge K.K. Amarnath, also the Member-Secretary of DLSA, Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif, Superintendent of Police (SP) Mallikarjun Baladandi and Member of KSCPCR Venkatesh will be present.

As a resource person, Dr. K. Raghavendra Bhat, Subject Expert on Child Safety, will share his views on the topic ‘Prohibition of Child Marriage Act and POCSO Act’ at 11 am.

Another resource person, Sampath, Senior Project Manager, RLHP, Mysuru will speak on ‘Prevailing issues related to the children’ at 4 pm.

Rally

Earlier, to create awareness on child marriage, a rally has been organised from Old Deputy Commissioner’s Office premises to Kalamandira at 9.30 am.  ADC Dr. Shivaraju will flag off the rally.
