Bansuri-Piano Jugalbandi concert of Pravin Godkhindi and Anil Srinivasan

City’s prestigious Sabha, Raaga Vaibhava brings a rare jugalbandi concert for Mysuru connoisseurs on Mar. 3 at Mysore Vasudevacharya Bhavana on JLB Road in city at 6 pm.

Pandit Praveen Godkhindi and Vid. Anil Srinivasan will present a Bansuri-Piano jugalbandi concert with Vid. Roopak Kallurkar on tabla and B.C. Manjunath on mridanga.

Pravin Godkhindi is a popular bansuri player who has mastered both the Tantrakari and gayaki style of playing. Born in a family of musicians, his father Venkatesh Godkhindi is his first Guru. Pravin gave his first public concert at the age of 6. A front ranker from the beginning, Pravin passed his BE with distinction too. His quest for deeper knowledge about Layakaari brought him to his Guru, Vidwan Anoor Ananth Krishna Sharma, a reputed mridanga artiste, who is providing able guidance to Pravin on the deeper aspects of Laya and Layakaari.

He is a top ranking artiste of Akashvani. He is the first Indian to represent bansuri at the World Flute Festival in Mendoza, Argentina. His jugalbandi concerts with guitar, santoor and sitar are popular.

Anil Srinivasan is a classical pianist trained in Karnatak music and studied Western classical piano. An acclaimed composer, performer and collaborator, he is well-known for contributing a new genre in Karnatak music using the classical piano as a frame around the free-flowing Karnatak classical voices.

A music educator with a strong background in cognitive neuroscience, Anil has been spearheading education through music with Rhapsody. This is a unique initiative to take music to thousands of children through an integrated approach across demographics. He has received multiple awards including the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.

Roopak Kallurkar is a highly acclaimed and predominant classical tabla player. Under the tutelage of his father and Guru, tabla maestro Dr. Pt. Rajgopal Kallurkar, Roopak started his musical journey at a tender age of five. He comes from the Farrukhabad Gharana and has simultaneously mastered the art of playing in other  gharanas as well.

B.C. Manjunath is a renowned mridangist. Trained under his father, B.K. Chandramouli, N. Krishnamurthy and Sangeeta Kalanidhi T.K. Murthy, his creative impulses have flowered in various forms in classical, solo and ensemble performances. He has accompanied many great artistes including R.R. Keshavamurthy, H.P. Ramachar and Chitraveena Ravikiran. He has also shared the stage with international legends like sufi singer Kani Karaca and Trombone genius Robin Eubanks.
