‘Basavanna preached only Sharana Dharma’

July 30, 2017

Mysuru: With media glorifying arguments and counter-arguments between people of  Veerashaiva and Lingayat communities on the scope of their religions, Dr. D.A. Upadhya, Dean, Sri Allamaprabhu Lalithakala Academy addressed a press meet at Pathrakartara Bhavan here on Friday stressing the importance of Sharana Dharma as propagated by Basavanna.

Dr. Upadhya clarified that the great social reformer of 12th century Krantiyogi Basavanna neither preached Veerashaiva nor Lingayat dharma but only on Sharana dharma. He regretted that the issue was being unduly politicised. He appealed politicians not to cash-in on differences but instead  hold Sharana dharma as supreme.
