Maddur: More than a year and a half after army Jawan from Maddur H. Guru was killed in the Pulwama attack that took place in Feb. 2019, Maddur MLA D.C. Thammanna performed  Bhoomi Puja (ground-breaking ceremony) for the martyr’s Memorial near Mellahalli on Maddur-Malavalli Road here on Friday, where the Government has allotted six guntas of land.

Speaking on the occasion, Thammanna, also a former Minister, said that H. Guru Memorial is being built at a cost of Rs. 25 lakh.

Stating that there are plans for reserving five to 10 acres of land in Maddur taluk for construction of Memorials for Jawans from Maddur who die while in service, he said that he will appeal the Government for making H. Guru Memorial into a tourist destination.

He pointed out that the previous Coalition Government had decided to construct the Memorial at the site where the last rites of martyred Jawan H. Guru  were performed.

JD(S) leaders Chikkathimmegowda, Devarahalli Venkatesh, H.M. Marimadegowda, H. Guru’s parents Honnaiah and Chikkathayamma, wife Kalavathi, brothers and other leaders were present during the occasion.
