Bicycle rally marks ‘World Bicycle Day’

Mysore/Mysuru: Marking the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence and celebrating ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India in association with Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Mysuru, Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES), Cycling My Sooru Training Academy and National Service Scheme (NSS) of University of Mysore (UoM) had jointly organised a bicycle rally as part of ‘World Bicycle Day’ in city this morning.

The 7.5 km bicycle rally comprising over 100 participants in the age groups of 15 and 60 years was flagged off by District Health Officer (DHO) Dr. K.H. Prasad from Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple in city.

The rally passed through Hardinge Circle, Gun House, Sanskrit Patashala, Ramaswamy Circle, DC Office Road, Hunsur Road, Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa Circle, Railway Station Circle, K.R. Hospital Road, Head Post Office Circle and Ashoka Road before culminating at the starting point.

All the cyclists throughout their rally shouted the slogan ‘Use Bicycle and Save Environment’.

DHO Dr. Prasad and DYES Assistant Director K. Suresh administered oath to all the cyclists which said ‘I take this pledge today on the eve of World Bicycle Day. First I will always try to use a bicycle for my day to day activities because it is good for physical and mental health and eco- friendly and more economical. Therefore I would like to take this pledge literally and start using bicycles for day to day work and I also encourage others to use bicycles for their day to day activities.’

Participation certificates were distributed to all the cyclists.

UoM NSS Programme Coordinator Dr. M.B. Suresh, Arjuna awardee and International Sports trainer Arunkumar H. Patil, Cycling My Sooru Training Academy Trainer T.V. Nagaraj, NYK Mysuru District Youth Officer Vinay Kumar, Programme Supervisor Chinnagiri Gowda, Karnataka Mahila Mandali President Kamala, Chamundeshwari Mahila Sangha President Seema, Secretary Ambika and others were present.
