Nanjangud: A bike rider was killed on the spot when the bike he was riding was knocked down by a canter vehicle on the Railway Over Bridge near Chamundi Township of Nanjangud town on Sunday.

Vasantha Nayaka (42) of Marballi in Mysuru taluk is the deceased. Vasantha Nayaka was travelling on Mysuru-Ooty Road on  his bike to Gonahalli village in Nanjangud taluk to attend a wedding, when a speeding canter, coming in the opposite direction, fatally knocked him down on the Over Bridge.

The Nanjangud Traffic Police, who rushed to the spot, conducted Mahazar and shifted the body to Nanjangud General Hospital for post-mortem.

Later, the body was handed over to the kith and kin. The Police seized the canter vehicle and have registered a case.

It may be mentioned here that 3 members of a family died in a road mishap near the same spot a few days ago. The local residents blamed the NHAI authorities for the frequent mishaps, saying that not putting warning signs and caution boards on this stretch of the Highway was the main cause for mishaps.
