Mysore/Mysuru: As part of the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyanchand (Aug. 29), the District Administration, in association with Zilla Panchayat, University of Mysore Physical Education Department and Mysuru District Amateur Cycling Association, celebrated National Sports Day at Chamundi Vihar Stadium in Nazarbad yesterday.
Speaking after inaugurating the event, N.R. MLA Tanveer Sait said students and youths should maintain their health by taking part in sporting activities, while also concentrating on their studies.
Cautioning the younger generation against falling prey to bad habits, wayward ways and addiction, Sait advised the students to grow in such a manner so as to make positive contributions to the society.
Noting that the youths should attempt at getting Government jobs by excelling in such sporting events, he suggested the students to foresee a bright future by putting up an exemplary performance in State, National and International-level sporting events.
Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports Assistant Director Bhaskar Nayak, Football Association District Secretary Manjunath, Nazarbad Police Inspector Mahadevaswamy and others were present.
