Mysore/Mysuru: Maintaining that ‘Sudharma’ Sanskrit daily Founder Pandit K.N. Varadaraja Iyengar was adventurous in taking forward his daily newspaper, ‘Sambhashana Sandesha’ Sanskrit monthly editor Dr. Janardhana Hegde said that Iyengar played an exemplary role in promoting Sanskrit.
He was speaking at Pandit Kalale Nadadur Varadaraja Iyengar (K.N. Varadaraja Iyengar) birth centenary celebrations organised by ‘Sudharma’ Sanskrit daily at Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha on JLB Road here recently.
Pointing out that editorial and circulation are key departments of any newspaper, Dr. Hegde said that ‘Sudharma’ Founder-Editor Varadaraja Iyengar himself took the lead in efficiently handling both the departments. Stating that Iyengar was articulate in gathering news for his paper, he said that he also put in a lot of efforts for getting advertisements from all quarters. Though he faced hurdles in his way, he braved them off in taking his paper on the path of success, he added.
Karnataka Samskrit University, Bengaluru, Vice-Chancellor Dr. V. Girish Chandra in his address said that Sanskrit is a global language and there are hopes that this language will become the National language in the days to come. He also called for teaching Sanskrit at schools.
Vidwan T.A. Sathyanarayana said that Varadaraja Iyengar ran ‘Sudharma’ for 20 years and subsequently his son K.V. Sampath Kumar (late) led it for 31 years. It is a matter of pride that Mysuru has got the only Sanskrit daily of the country, he added.
Pune’s Sri Sharada Pratishtanam Founder Pandit Vasanth Anant Gadgil was conferred ‘Patrika Sevarathna’ award on the occasion. Also, ‘Varada Vaibhavam,’ a felicitation volume and three Sanskrit works ‘Ashwalayana Gruhyasutra’ (Author- Vidwan Shingappa), ‘Maha Bharatam Targataha Kaschana Upakataha’ (Author- Dr. Vishwas) and ‘Swantantrya Veeraha’ (Author- Vidwan Vatsacharya), brought out by Sudharma Prakashana were released.
