Car owner told to pay fine for helmet-less riding!

November 22, 2024

Sir,

This refers to the news item titled ‘CCTV camera goof-up: Hapless riders asked to pay fine for violation’ in Star of Mysore dated Nov. 20. I also experienced a similar situation.

On Nov. 17 (Sunday), I received a message about helmet-less riding on a vehicle registered in my name. I was quite surprised as I never do such things. Moreover, I am currently working out of India. And I felt it could be my father but he has been wearing a helmet ever since he got his licence more than 50 years ago.

But then I realised, the vehicle they quoted was my car which is a shame. Now I felt it should be the CCTV camera itself which might have made a mistake while reading the registration number.

And today while reading your e-paper report ‘CCTV camera goof-up!’ and with so many instances of the Government having lack of funds for development showing up quite daily, now I wonder if there is a link between this fine and the lack of funds with the Government?

Speculations apart, now I have to understand a way to convey this to the Traffic Police about the malfunction but was unable to find an e-mail or a contact to voice my appeal easily.

I request the traffic authorities to also put up a grievance e-mail in the same fine portal so that the people can also post their side of the story. I am an avid reader of SOM e-paper. I wish you the best and may the Voices of the Readers grow.
