Mysuru: It is a free-for-all at Sayyaji Rao Road where motorists, stray cows and pedestrians jostle for space. While stray cows squat on the middle of the road and roam wherever they wish, two-wheelers violate traffic by entering barricades (wherever space is available). Due to this disorderly situation, motorists who go by the rule and pedestrians are severely inconvenienced.

The barricades erected from K.R. Circle till the Ayurveda Circle cannot hold the busy traffic as motorists including two-wheeler riders and autorickshaw drivers entering wherever they find a small gap.

The menace is high near the Cauvery Emporium, Lidkar Showroom, near the underpass, down below Mohan Bhandar, the entrance to Devaraja Market and near the road that turns towards Old Bank Road.

The problem is compounded as they are temporary barricades and anybody can either shift the barricade or make space for his/ her vehicle to pass through. As per the rules, those heading from K.R. Circle to Dhanvanthri Road and motorists from Ayurveda College Circle to K.R. Circle take this road.

However, they have found an easy way to avoid going near the designated place (K.R. Circle and Ayurveda College Circle) where they are supposed to take a turn. Instead, they have opted for an easy way to go to  the other side by removing the barricades or by entering wherever there is a gap.

Due to the haphazard movement of traffic, relatives of patients who come to K.R. Hospital have a tough time to cross the road to buy medicines,fruits and food.

Earlier, the system on this road was to erect permanent barricades and remove them during Dasara for the annual Jamboo Savari where caparisoned elephants travel from Mysore Palace to Bannimantap. Now the authorities have just set up temporary barricades that are proving a boon for motorists violating traffic rules.
