Mysore/Mysuru: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Mysuru Zone, marked the beginning of a collaborative, city-focused Tree Census initiative with a well-attended event on Dec.22.
The programme brought together over 100 participants from industry, academic institutions and student volunteers, reflecting strong interest in contributing to Mysuru’s environmental sustainability through on-ground action.
The initiative is being steered by CII Mysuru CSR & DEI Panel, with active support from the Health, Safety, Environment & Wellness Panel and the Industry-Institute Interaction Panel.
Nagaraja Gargeshwari, Chairman, CII Mysuru Zone, emphasised that responsible city development requires industries and institutions to look beyond their boundaries and work collectively for long-term public good.
He placed on record his appreciation for Prof. Smitha Hegde of Centre For Advanced Learning (CFAL), Mangaluru, for guiding the programme and anchoring the methodology.
During the session, Prof. Smitha Hegde highlighted that a scientific yet simple approach to tree documentation is critical for meaningful outcomes. She noted that the use of a standardised, app-based process enables diverse teams to contribute consistently, making city-wide coverage achievable through coordinated participation.
The initiative builds on the efforts of Mysuru Green Projects (MGP) and CFAL, along with academic institutions in Mysuru and seeks to take the exercise forward at a larger scale.
Going ahead, the Tree Census will be driven through joint teams formed by industry and academia, working together across wards to ensure systematic progress.
