Citizen Forum for Swachh Mysuru Inaugurated

January 7, 2018

Mysuru:  As part of Swachh Survekshan programme, Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep inaugurated a Citizen Forum for Swachh Mysuru-2018 near the Habitat Mall, Jayalakshmipuram in city this morning. This forum has been constituted by several associations and organisations such as Rotary Club, Lions Club, Senior Citizens Forum, Central Bank Owners Association, GSS Foundation, DRC Cinemas, Young India, BAR Association and others.

At DRC, where the list of movies would be displayed on screens, today featured information on Swachh Survekshan and Swachh Mysuru aiming to create awareness about the initiative to the visitors. The two display screens also had details urging the citizens of Mysuru to call to the toll number of 1969 (Swacch Bharat Abhiyan).  The objective of the forum was to create awareness among the people to call 1969 and answer positively to the six questions put forward by the Swachh Abhiyan team.

Randeep inaugurated the forum and said that the Mysuru City Corporation is trying its best to get back to the number one position as the cleanest city. “We were at the top for two years but slipped down to 5th spot as during that time there was no proper documentation and less number of public toilets according to the guidelines of the Swachh Survekshan. Public participation also plays a key role and last time the participation was less and because of all the above mentioned factors, Mysuru lost out,” he said.

G. Jagadeesha, Corporation Commissioner, said that the number 1969 was not accessible from BSNL earlier. He has now spoken to the BSNL authorities and resolved that matter. The number is now accessible from any carrier. He questioned, “You tend to spend about 3 to 4 hours watching movies, can’t you spend four minutes on the phone and be a part of this initiative?”
