Mysore/Mysuru; Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Kannada (CESCK) had organised an International Series of Lecture on ‘Bhakthi: Multiple Manifestations’ from Aug. 2 to Oct. 1 through online.

In this webinar, altogether 37 lectures were presented by local, national and international level eminent scholars.

The valedictory ceremony of International Series of Lecture took place on Oct. 5.

Prof. RVS Sundaram, while speaking on Bhakti Structure, mentioned that to attain Moksha, Bhakti is the important route. Not only Bhakti is present in written literature or Vachana, Keertana, it is also immersed through the different customs of Folk, tribal and aboriginal.

Dr. S.N. Sridhar, Professor of Linguistics and Indian Study Centre, Stony Brooke University, America, expressed that devotion is beyond the framework while delivering the valedictory speech.

He said Kumaravyasa has fought both the bhakti bases and expressed bhakti beyond the frameworks of Shiva Bhakti and Vishnu Bhakti, which are common in Bhakti.

Kumaravyasa had the ability to confronting the Supreme Power with humanising, consort, child, friend and seeing God as a Swami.

He also shows in his poetry that Sanskrit and Kannada are harmonising in language. Hence, Kumaravyasa was a great global poet.

Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore (UoM), appreciated the Centre’s activities and assured of cooperation for the development of the Centre in future.

Prof. Shailendra Mohan, Director, CIIL, chaired the programme and expressed his gratitude to the scholars who emphasised on the spread of Kannada tradition through these lecture series. He also remembered the ancient Kannada language for which Classical status is given.

Prof. Shivarama Shetty, Project Director, CESCK, welcomed. Dr. N.S. Annapurna, Associate Fellow, anchored the programme. Dr. Malini N. Abhyankar, Associate Fellow, proposed a vote of thanks.
