Mysore/Mysuru: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will lay the foundation stone for Shaktidhama Vidyashala and also inaugurate the newly built Infosys Foundation Block at Shaktidhama Women Rehabilitation Centre premises on Nanjangud road at 4 pm on Apr. 7.
Suttur Mutt Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji will grace the occasion.
District Minister S.T. Somashekar, Infosys Executive Vice-President Shaji Mathew, actor Shivarajkumar, Shaktidhama President Geetha Shivarajkumar, Vice-President Kempaiah (retired IPS Officer), MLA S.A. Ramdas and others will be present at the programme.
Shaktidhama was set up by Thespian Dr. Rajkumar and his wife Parvathamma Rajkumar in 1997, with the support of Suttur Seer and the then Mysuru City Police Commissioner Kempaiah. Since its establishment 25 years ago, Shaktidhama has provided shelter and rehabilitated over 4,000 distressed women and also strived for their empowerment.
Shaktidhama houses a residential school, in which more than 160 girls are studying. Now the Vidyashala is being built as an extension of educational services. Shaktidhama, which started under the leadership of Parvathamma Rajkumar, is now headed by her daughter-in-law Geetha Shivarajkumar, wife of actor Shivarajkumar, the eldest son of Dr. Rajkumar.
