Colourful thematic rangolis attract passers-by

Mysuru: Mahila Dasara Sub-Committee had organised a Rangoli contest for women in the age group of 18 to 80 years in front of Kote Anjaneyaswamy temple here this morning.

Minister for Kannada and Culture Umashree inaugurated the competition by drawn a rangoli on the floor.

Speaking on the occasion Umashree expressed happiness in inaugurating the competition even before the Dasara festival inauguration. She added that Rangolis were not only divine but could be thought-provoking too.

About 85 women from Mysuru, Tumakur, Nelamangala, Chamarajaranagar, Nanjangud and other places participated in the competition. Drawn under Chukki and Yele categories, the rangolis featured Ambari Ane, flower decoration, peacocks, musical instruments with themes like Kannada culture, cleanliness, conservation of tree, afforestation, girl empowerment and many more.

The oldest participant was 80 year old Parvathamma, a resident of Devaraja Mohalla here who had drawn a colourful rangoli with here fragile yet nimble fingers. The 90-odd colourful rangolis were soothing to the eyes attracting passers-by to pose for selfies with them that included some foreigners too.

Radha, Deputy Director, Department of Women and Child Welfare, Sub-Committee President Latha Mohan, Vice-President Susheela Marigowda and others were present.
