Mysore/Mysuru: A grand vocal concert by Vid. Kunnakudi M. Balamuralikrishna will be held on Jan. 24 from 6 pm at Ganavisharada Bidaram Krishnappa’s Sri Prasanna Seetharama Mandira, Narayana Shastry Road, Mysuru, in memory of the illustrious Parur School of Violin, headed by Parur Sundaram Iyer, M.S. Anantharaman and Sangeetha Kalanidhi, Padma Bhushan M.S. Gopalakrishnan, organised by Vid. H.K. Narasimhamurthy, who had the opportunity to learn from all of them.
Kunnakudi Balamuralikrishna is a prominent vocalist of the present generation. Initially trained in music by his father, Vid. Meenakshi Sundaram, he continued his further training under Vidwans Nyeveli Santhana Gopalan, V. Sunderesan and P.S. Narayanaswamy. It is interesting to know that he is also an eminent mridanga player, trained under Vid. Karaikudi R. Mani.
Balamurali’s come back to the performing arena in 2014 like a phoenix after he lost his voice in 2010, was a marvel. Today he is at the forefront of vocalists, on account of his hard work, grit, passion and never say die spirit. He has the ability to touch the hearts of rasikas with his bhava soaked bold voice, ease of presenting attractive neravals and swarakalpanas, pallavis and a great layajnana. He is bestowed with numerous scholarships and awards.
He will be accompanied by eminent artistes such as Vid. H.N. Bhaskar, one of the leading violinist hailing from Mysuru and a disciple of H.K. Narasimhamurthy and Parur Gurus on violin, Vid. Tumkur Ravishankar on mridanga and Vid. Shamith S. Gowda on ghata.
