Many with suspected COVID symptoms too get vaccinated

Mysore/Mysuru: The mega ‘Lasika Mela,’ launched on Monday in Mysuru to vaccinate people in the age group of 18-44 years received an overwhelming response on the second day yesterday too, with people in the said age group thronging the vaccination centres.

While a total of 39,869 people were vaccinated on Monday, 38,873 people, including health workers, frontline workers, priority groups and general public between 18 and 44 years received their jab yesterday.

There are a total of 177 vaccination centres in city including 28 Primary Health Centres (PHCs), District Hospital, Trauma Care Centre and Panchakarma Hospital among others where vaccination is being given and each centre is given a target to vaccinate 500 people a day. 

Chamaraja Constituency: Vaccination drive at Chamaraja Constituency was led by MLA L. Nagendra. While residents of Ward No. 22 received their jab at Maharani’s Commerce and Management College for Women at Paduvarahalli, Ward No. 5 residents at Government School at Kumbarakoppal, Ward No. 4 residents took their vaccine at Bhyraveshwara School at Lokanayakanagar, Ward No. 3 residents were inoculated at Kodagu Gowda Samaja and Ward No. 41 residents were vaccinated at Maharani’s Arts and Science College for Women on JLB Road.

MLA Nagendra said that apart from the PHCs, special vaccination drives were held at five more centres in Chamaraja Constituency and added that based on the availability of vaccines, the vaccination drives would be held.

COVID test mandatory: COVID test was made mandatory for those who had come to get their jab. There were thousands of people who had come to get vaccinated at various centres including Maharani’s College. Separate arrangements were made for RT-PCR test registration and only after the beneficiaries underwent the test they were vaccinated.

Meanwhile, a few members of the public said that the results of RT-PCR test comes only after 24 hours and questioned, what if the person, who underwent RT-PCR test and then vaccinated tests positive for COVID-19 later, will the vaccine work on these people or is the vaccine given to them goes for a waste?

People with COVID symptoms too vaccinated: During the RT-PCR test at Maharani’s College, the swab collector found nearly 20-25 people with the symptoms and asked them to undergo Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) as the results would be known immediately. But these people with symptoms not only refused to undergo RAT, they also took vaccine and returned. As there was huge rush at the centre, this issue had not come to light.

MCC Zone-6 Assistant Commissioner M. Karthik, Development Officer C. Manjunath and Environmental Engineer S. Mythri, who rushed to the spot, warned the people that vaccination would not be administered to those who do not undergo COVID test following which the people undertook the test.

In all, 891 people at Maharani’s Arts and Science College, 610 at Maharani’s Commerce and Management College and 2,000 people in MCC Zone-10 limits were vaccinated.
