Craters surface after rains: Gaping holes a nightmare for motorists

May 30, 2018

Mysuru:  Water is the worst enemy of roads, say road experts and with the relentless pounding of rains in the city since the past several days, there are gaping holes which is causing a nightmare for the motorists to drive on these dangerous craters.

As the elections were nearing the concentration of the people’s representatives turned towards road development.

While asphalting of some of the prominent roads were taken up, in a few others only potholes were covered and it was just a patch up job.

Instead of covering them with tar, they were covered with just mud and stones. This has resulted in the potholes appearing again which is posing danger to life and limb of the motorists, especially two-wheeler riders.

Just one month ago on Mysuru-Gaddige Road potholes were covered with jelly stones and tar. However, due to continuous rain, it has opened up again and jelly stones are lying all around.

The other areas where the roads are filled with potholes include New Kantharaj Urs Road, Sawday Road in Mandi Mohalla, Shivaji Road in N.R. Mohalla, Srirampura, Kuvempunagar and most of the main and cross roads in Vijayanagar.

Along with the condition of the roads, the underground drainage is also in bad shape and in BM Shrinagar as the manholes keep overflowing, the residents are getting anxious.

The sewage water in a few houses is gushing out of the commodes from the toilets thus exposing the quality of the drainage works.

The public are apprehensive regarding the outbreak of communicable diseases like dengue and malaria.

Pig menace

The menace of pigs in Chikkaharadanahalli has increased. This is a problem faced by the residents of even Srirampura and they say that in spite of complaining to the MCC Control Room, no action has been taken till date.

Every political party be it the Congress, BJP or JD(S) when it comes to power claims that its government had given crores of rupees grant for development. However, when one sees the pathetic condition of the roads and other basic facilities, where did all the money disappear, ask the irate public.

Rain or shine the MCC in Mysore have a lot of answering to do. They have not heeded to many complaints in many areas by playing deaf. The garbage menace in gayathripuram 2nd stage behind the second park leading to St.Antony’s church has been lying there with stench, flies, rats and bandicoots. It gets worse during rains when the strong winds bring all the dirt to my verandah. Its in a residential area very close to my home. The wet garbage slush is so smelly and I have all kinds of health issues there. My house is locked and I am out on the streets at present. The authorities have done nothing despite my pleas and complaints of locals for several years. Rain or shine they need to be held answerable in a court of law for damaging lives and having citizens contract diseases and be homeless.
