Mysuru Division’s men athletes (2 gold, 1 silver & 3 bronze) and women athletes (3 gold, 1 silver & 2 bronze) hogged the limelight by bagging a total of 5 golds out of the 9 gold medals which were at stake in the track and field events on the first day of the State Level Dasara 2017 which began at the Chamundi Vihar Stadium, here yesterday.
The Day 1 also witnessed Bengaluru City’s quartet setting a new record in 4×400 mts men’s relay. T.H. Devaiah, M.G. Siddarth, M.G. Ashwin and Gowrishankar, who ran a fast paced race, set a new meet record of with a timing of 3:15.8 sec erasing the previous record timing of 3:16.4sec set in 2014 by the Bengaluru City quartet of Raghu, Sachin Gowda, M.J. Ashwin and Jayaprakash Shetty. Mysuru Division secured the silver with a timing of 3:22.2 sec and were followed by Belagavi Division who took the bronze with a timing of 3:28.78 sec.
Fastest man of the meet
Mysuru Division’s Manish, ran a well to emerge as the fastest man of the meet and equalled the meet record set in 1997 by Clifford Joshua (B’lore City-10.6 sec) & by Sonith Mendon (Mysuru Division in 2009-10.6sec), by breasting the tape also with a timing of 10.6 sec. K.M. Aiyappa of Bengaluru City took the silver with a timing of 10.7sec, while Paigambar Goundi of Mysuru Division took the bronze with a timing of 10.8 sec.
At the end of day one, Mysuru Division has won two gold medals in the men’s section and three gold medals in the women’s section. They were followed closely by Bengaluru City athletes who won 2 gold medals in the men’s section and 2 gold medals and in the women’s sections respectively.
Fastest woman
Prajna S. Prakash of Bengaluru City hogged the limelight, by bagging 100 mts gold with a timing of 11.8 sec and emerged as the fastest woman of the meet. Afsana Begum (Mysuru Division-12.00 sec) and A.T. Daneshwari (Bengaluru City-12.01 sec) finished second and third respectively.
Swimming: In the women’s section, Bengaluru City’s swimmers dominated the pool by winning all the five gold medals at stake on day one of the event. H.M. Preksha won two gold medals in 200 mts & 400mts freestyle events respectively.
In the men’s section, Bengaluru City’s swimmers won three gold medals (Rayan Md. Meccai, D.S. Pruthvik and M. Sharath), while hosts Mysuru Division won the other two gold medals (P.M. Suhas & Hemanth Jenukal).
