Taluk-level sports to be held before Aug. 25; District-level events by Sept. 1 and Divisional-level by Sept. 10

Mysore/Mysuru: Dasara Sports Meet this year will be held from Sept. 22 to 25 at Chamundi Vihar Stadium in Nazarbad, stated a press release  from the Commissioner, Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES).

Accordingly, the Taluk-level Dasara Sports will be held by Aug. 25, District-level Dasara Sports by Sept. 1 and Divisional-level by Sept. 10.

For Divisional-level events, the authorities have formed five divisions — Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Kalaburagi, Mysuru and Belagavi — to provide equal opportunities for the athletes.

The Deputy Directors and Assistant Directors of DYES of respective divisions have been instructed to organise the Sports Meet before the deadline and forward the results of winners to the Office of the Commissioner, DYES, Bengaluru, within Sept. 15.

The DYES has also issued guidelines with respect to sports events to be organised at Taluk, District and Divisional levels.

Accordingly, 100 mts sprint, 200 mts sprint, 400 mts run, 800 mts run, 1,500 mts run, 10,000 mts run, long jump, high jump, triple jump, javelin throw, discus throw, 110 mts hurdles, 4×100 relay and 4×400 mts relay will be organised in track events for both men and women.

Apart from the track event, field events such as volleyball, football, kho kho, kabaddi, throwball, yogasana, basketball, wrestling, badminton, lawn tennis, netball, swimming, table tennis, hockey, handball, judo, gymnastics, archery, cycling, boxing, wushu, taekwondo, fencing and shooting will be organised.

Traditional Yoga Competition

The DYES will also organise traditional yoga competition at Taluk, District and Divisional-level.

While yoga competition at Taluk-level consists of Veerabhadrasana, Janu Sirsasana, Halasana and Dhanurasana, District-level will have Pada Hastasana, Akarna Dhanurasana, Urdhva Dhanurasana and Ardha Matsyendrasana.

Divisional-level will comprise Kurmasana, Bakasana, Rajakapotasana and Natarajasana while the State-level competition will feature Urdhva Mukha Paschimottanasana, Tittibhasana, Shalabha Vrischikasana and Poorna Matsyendrasana.

In the Taluk and District-level competitions, participants must pose in the choice of their yogasana for 10 secs and in Divisional & State-level competition for 5 secs. Artistic yogasana (both individual and pair) and Rhythmic yogasana (pair) will also be held.

The winners and runners-up in individual events and winners of group events at the Taluk-level will qualify for District-level.

Similarly, winners and runners-up in individual events and winners of group events will qualify for Divisional-level while winners in Divisional-level will take part in the State-level.
