Dasara Wrestling tournament from Sept.21

Mysuru: The Dasara Wrestling tournament will take place from Sept. 21 to 26 at D. Devaraj Urs Multipurpose Stadium adjacent to Dasara Exhibition Grounds in city.

Announcing this at a press meet at Vartha Bhavan on Dhanvantri Road here this morning, SP Ravi D. Channannavar, who is also the Dasara Wrestling Sub-Committee Working President, said that the 6-day tournament will feature 35th State-level men’s wrestling tournament and 9th State-level women’s wrestling tournament and other bouts.

Stating that the tournament will be inaugurated at 3.30pm on Sept.21, he said that the inaugural day will feature Under-15 and Under-17 category wrestling bouts.

On Sept.22, Mysuru Division Boys Wrestling Tournament will take place. Also, the weight check of wrestlers taking part in the 9th State-level Women’s Wrestling Tournament will be held and the tournament will be held on Sept. 23.

The weight check for participants of the 35th State-level Men’s Wrestling Tournament will be held on Sept. 23 and the tournament will be held on Sept. 26.

Sept. 24 and 25 will witness Panja (Arm) Wrestling Tournament and several others Dasara Wrestling events.

Continuing, the SP said for the first time a Chamundi Hill Climbing Contest will be held for Dasara wrestlers.

He said that in order to promote wrestling and to give preference to local wrestlers, the Sub-Committee will also be organising wrestling tournaments in all the four directions of the city, the date and venue of which will be announced later.

The SP further said the event will also feature Arm Wrestling Contest for the first time. Also, 20 youths who are found interested in wrestling, will be sent on training for period of one year, he said and added that in order to maintain total transparency in payments, all cash prizes will be made through digital mode of payment.

ASP Mohammed Sujitha, Sub-Committee Secretary D. Ravikumar, Prof. K.R. Rangaiah, Pailwan N.L. Mohan and others were present at the press meet.
