Plant Sampige saplings; install stone benches on the stretch

Mysuru:  Good ideas can be implemented with true will and downright involvement. This thought brought together a group of like-minded residents of ‘G’ Block, 10th Main Road, Dattagalli 3rd Stage, who have beautified the surrounding area.

Residents, feeling the need of more greenery in the locality, planted more than 20 Sampige saplings and also installed fences around them to prevent cows and goats eating them away. Next, they constructed “Thampu Katte” (stone bench) next to each tree. This way, the entire half-kilometre road is covered with trees and stone benches.

Speaking to Star of Mysore on their initiative, Dr. T. Shreekanth  and Purushotham, residents of the area said that the trees and benches provide a much-needed break from the monotony of the road.

“The road was wide enough and was clean. We thought of giving it more utility so that walkers can sit on these benches and spend some quality time and relax in the evenings and also mornings,” they said.

“These trees and benches have indeed enabled friendly meetings of all age groups thereby rooting strong harmony amidst all of us. This was possible due to the contribution by the area residents physically, morally and monetarily to have a clean and a green neighbourhood,” Dr. Shreekanth said.

The main intention of planting Sampige trees is to get that fragrant flower scent as soon as one enters this particular road. “After the implementation of our ideas along with tremendous self-satisfaction, we have received encouraging messages from many residents about how even they would like to transform and beautify their area like what we have done,” he added.
