Mysore/Mysuru: A day-long workshop on first-aid training for Industrial workers and Supervisors, organised by Nanjangud Industries Association (NIA) in association with the Department of Factories and Boilers, Industrial Safety and Health, Government of Karnataka, began at Hotel Shree Guru Residency in city this morning.
This was the 71st one-day training programme organised by the NIA.
Speaking after inaugurating the Workshop, DCP Pradeep Gunti said that the need for first-aid treatment is greater than ever because of the increased use of machines, equipment, electrical appliances etc., in everyday work. Highlighting the role of first-aid in providing initial treatment to victims of mishaps or accidents at work- places, homes and also anywhere, he stressed on the importance of enhancing first-aid skills, which most of the times act as a life-saving measure.
Underlining the importance of acquiring specialised skills in first-aid treatment, he said that this workshop is very significant in the backdrop of a statutory compliance, according to which a certain number of employees should be trained in first-aid and they should also know the importance procedures for treating fellow employees or others in times of emergency, accidents, mishaps and other such incidents. He also emphasised that the trained employees must know the procedures for calling the ambulance and timely shifting of the injured to the hospital.
Dr. Prakash, Secretary, St.John’s Ambulance Association, Mysuru Chapter, who was the resource person, said that no mishaps or accidents of any kind occur with any prior hint or indication. Asserting that accidents or mishaps are instant, he stressed on the need for the employees to be fully aware of the first-aid treatment procedures. Cautioning that the first-aid treatment may go awry if not properly or carefully given, Dr. Prakash called upon the participants to learn every nuances of first-aid as it will come handy in saving precious lives not only at work-place, but elsewhere too. Reiterating that proper first-aid care is vital in early treatment, he wanted all the employees to be aware of the fundamentals of first-aid care.
The workshop featured lectures, discussions, interactions and demonstrations. Over 50 employees from various industries attended this workshop.
NIA Secretary B.S. Chandrashekar, M.S. Mahadevu, Deputy Director of Factories, Industrial Safety and Health and other officials were present.
