Mysuru, Sept. 7 (PM&BS)- N. Bhaskar, State President of ‘Samvidhana Samrakshana Horata Samiti,’ has urged the State Government to develop Madhuvana — the royal cemetery of the erstwhile Mysore Royal Family — located on Nanjangud Road, into a Memorial.
He stated that the Wadiyars, who ruled Mysore State (later Karnataka), developed it into a model State admired across the world. “It is the Government’s duty to educate future generations about the remarkable history and contributions of the Wadiyars,” he said.
Pointing out that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has already allocated crores of rupees in grants for Mysuru city, Bhaskar urged that during his tenure, the CM must take up the development of the Memorial to showcase the historical, cultural and socially progressive legacy of the Wadiyars, including Rajarshi Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar.
Highlighting Nalwadi’s visionary leadership, Bhaskar recalled how, during the pre-Independence era, the Maharaja constituted the Miller Commission to introduce reservations for the oppressed classes in Government jobs. He also mentioned that to build the Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) Dam, the Maharaja had pledged his personal gold and valuables in Mumbai, demonstrating his dedication to public welfare.
Bhaskar further suggested that Nalwadi’s birth anniversary be celebrated as ‘Exploited Classes Day,’ honouring his efforts towards social justice and equality.
