Commonwealth Games – 2026

Glasgow: Indian athletes continued to create history at the ongoing Commonwealth Games at Glasgow, Scotland, yesterday  as para athletes Dilip Mahadu Gavit and Mohammed Basil Morssinganakath won gold and silver medals respectively in the 100-metre T47 final.

Gavit clocked a Games record and season-best time of 10.71 secs to take top spot, while Basil produced his season-best time of 10.83 secs to finish second in a closely fought race. England’s Kevin Santos completed the podium with 10.85 secs to win the bronze medal.

These medals were India’s third and fourth medals of the day, after long jumper Murali Sreeshankar had earlier won a silver in the men’s long jump.

The silver medal also made Sreeshankar the first Indian men’s long jumper to win two Commonwealth Games medals.

The gold was India’s third at the Glasgow Games, following Mirabai Chanu’s victory in women’s 48-kg weightlifting event and Sharmila Dhankar’s triumph in the women’s shot put F57 para athletics category.

The medals lifted India to eighth spot in the standings, taking its overall tally to 15 medals — three gold, nine silver and three bronze.
