Sir,
Residents of 4th Main, Dattagalli 3rd Stage, near Mangalya Sangama Choultry, struggle with an increasing stray dog menace. A female dog has been giving birth on this street every year, leading to a growing pack of nearly 10 to 12 dogs from past and recent litters.
These dogs have become aggressive, attacking children and the elderly. Several residents have tried reaching out to the MCC complaints helpline, but the calls are never answered.
On one rare occasion, I was fortunate enough to get through. The person who answered assured me that a dog-catching van would arrive the very next day. That call was made a year ago. The van is still “on the way.”
These stray dogs scatter garbage from residential bins and frequently chase two-wheelers, causing panic and accidents. I also attempted to contact the Health Inspector, but as expected, received no response.
At the very least, the authorities should sterilise these animals to prevent further breeding. This is a basic responsibility — especially when taxpayers are funding these services.
We also urge that the much-publicised helpline numbers actually function. If no one answers them, what is the point of having them at all?
It is our right to live peacefully. If civic agencies fail in their duties, we should remember this when casting our votes.
