Downside of 75 minutes from Mysuru to Bengaluru

April 3, 2022

Sir,

Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in his tweet has said that the travel time between Bengaluru and Mysuru will be reduced to 75 minutes (Zip from Mysuru to Bengaluru in 75 minutes from October in ‘Star of Mysore’ dated 29.3.2022).

True, it sounds alluring in an environment when life these days is on fast track in every activity. The result is that we have lost out on enjoying life of leisure that has robbed us of real enjoyment and impacted on longevity. Being in a hurry is inversely proportional to the quality of life.

If one has to reach Bengaluru with a stop for payment of toll en route, the average speed must be around 120km/hour if not more. Naturally, the route must be a dedicated one free of interference from cross traffic.

When you zip across you have no time to enjoy the greenery that would be a feast to the eye. At that speed, it is a blur. Besides  even a few seconds of laxity in driving it may result in accident hitting against the median or other vehicle. Research indicate that majority of drivers suffer from poor driving skill in India.

There is another aspect to be considered. As per Road User Cost Study from the mechanical properties of vehicles, automobile engineer has proved that the optimal speed for lowest fuel consumption for most passenger cars and light commercial vehicles is between 60 km/h and 80 km/h. This range is called the ‘Green Speed.’ Any speed below or more consumes more fuel. It means it is a heavy drag on economy if the vehicle speed exceeds the ‘Green Speed’.

While India heavily depends on more than 75% of its crude in importing from other countries, it will hurt our economy. Besides the fluctuation in crude prices and uncertainty caused due to present war-like situation will also impact on India’s economy negatively. Whether one likes it or not, progress cannot be held to ransom. From time to time  human aspiration goes on changing and the world has to come to terms with it.

The world is already moving towards autonomous driverless vehicles and the other alternative to fuel is to think of running cars from electricity that is catching up. Of course for that electricity generation has to increase and that in turn will give fillip to more solar energy. In that situation India is in a fortunate position in respect of climate. That is how the cycle of life moves on.

I hope the existing road Mysore-Bangalore is still available to leisurely passengers, toll free.

  2. boregowda says:

Yes it will be used by the local farmers to spread their crops for dehusking by the slow moving traffic and for night drink parties

  3. Manjunath says:

This is the problem with Indian mind set. These regressive thoughts comes up only when new projects taken up to ease or improve people lives. The person who has written the article must be dumb not to understand that commuting in 75 minutes on a good road saves fuel than commuting the same in 180 mins in bumper to bumper traffic. Add to that accidents, mental stress, waste of time on road, wear and tear of vehicles, etc. No wonder why so many good projects in mysore are stalled because of such regressive thinking. Funniest is loosing out leisure and greenery, does anyone goes on road to spend his liesure and can’t green be restored after the project is completed?

  4. Vicki says:

What an interesting perspective! The author should be given an award. Oh…but it is not the UPA government any more.

  5. Mirhun says:

Perhaps this author has no issues with fuel consumption or climate change when the normal speed on highways is 110kmph and above in other countries but finds fault when we catch up.It is absolutely preposterous to think that wind and solar are viable alternatives to power cities and industries.Too many people are falling for the globalist agenda and freely dish out their ill informed “solutions”.

  6. Anand says:

You can take the back roads if you want leisurely travel. What’s the song, dance and wailing for. The rest of us who want this road will use it.

  7. VIVEK says:

It’s just bad editorial choice that such dumb articles get published. It’s a waste of news paper space and ink.

  8. Mann Ki Baat! says:

The person who wrote that mail, and the persons who have replied to it, both demonstrate why this country is still a third world cesspit. The so called technological progress has not lifted this country from its pathetic third world status. When more than half of its population are under the the UN-defined poverty threshold, this 10-lane highway ,which will soon become inadequate becomes a delusion of progress.
    The present
The 10-lane highway, is not a progression, when this country has no massive deposits of oil, when its large number of inhabitants multiplying at a very fast rate, and hence, generations gripped with car culture frenzy, use resources like this highway to its limit very fast within 5 years; then one could see queues of cars in each lanes slowing down, and the journey time between the 2 cities taking much longer than this mythical 75 minutes, which is calculated on an assumption of light traffic on lanes and no hold up at the toll gates.
Currently, Modi is defying the world opinion and siding with Putin in regards to the invasion f Ukraine to get discounted oil from Russia. How long this situation will last?
    The near future
Then , think of electric cars coming along, they are already here; when the petrol driven cars are replaced , these cars need charging , unless some one invents a car battery that could remain uncharged for 100miles. At least many charging points are needed along the highway. The issues of providing power supply through the grid to them, which is already stressed to the limit with frequent power outages.
The car culture gripped America in 1950s, when General Eisenhower, then president implemented the Inter state highways ,mainly to move military equipment fast in the case of a war, but also for the civilian vehicles for use, in the normal times. The petrol ( gas) then was cheaper per gallon than a 500 ml bottled water! The lack of fast trains and public transport did not matter for them, until now, when the petrol( gas)prices are climbing up fast. They will cope, because their population is a third of Indian population ,and they can sustain their car culture forsometime.
I live in a Western country where there is cheap public transport, the intercity trains are fast and cars are used not frequently, and the highways cope . That is because the population here is not multiplying fast like in India.
It is a silly suggestion asking people to enjoy the scenery, as these sceneries are fast disappearing, giving way to developments of sorts.. Once, decades ago, Mysore was blessed with wonderful sceneries within and just around its perimeter, when the city was compact in size. Now?
In the very near future, developments like housing, factories and businesses will spring along the highway; then one could see only a continuity of them along the 90 miles corridor. What scenery then?
Within a decade, there will be a Bangalore-Mysore twin city! One could see the signs of it ,even now.

  9. GopalaKrishna Pv [email protected] says:

The 10 way super fast express way is mere waste of public money. Furthermore what is the cost of the toll and the time to cross the toll gate. If the same amount is invested in building 4 Lane railway, it would have helped the common man too. This expressway is only for high net worth high class citizens and not for ordinary citizens. BJP never cares middle class. It is unfortunate that BJP is following the foot step of congress.

  10. Howdy, Modi! says:

These dim witted Mysoreans are in perpetual delirium, not seeing what is ahead. As well as this 10-lanehighway, which will soon become totally inadequate for the purpose, there is planned Hassan-Kodagu-Kerala, and Wayanad highway planning too. Mysore will be soon flooded with Keralites and Tamils, the latter when Mysore-Chennai fast trains become a reality. The new extensions, together with the greater Mysore plan will stretch the city limit to Srirangapatna, absorbing it within the city and beyond. Think of how many thousands of cars these newcomer settled in Greater Mysore will have. The signs are these people are rushing in to construct their housing, setting up their businesses in the city extending it already, to beat the price rise.
The massive increase of cars in the Mysore city will simply render the 10-lane highway very inadequate. The 75 minutes journey ? Forget it!

  12. Mann Ki Baat, Bisi Bele Baat! says:

The highways and cars have massive social implications in a very negative way. They fuel the car craze and car culture in India, which at best is despicable.
In this country of so called ancient culture, which Modi boasts about when he meets every foreign leaders, a young woman who is recently married to a worthless squirt-her husband -most Indians are worthless squirts lacking moral fibre any way, is in mortal danger of being murdered, if she did not bring a shiny new car as dowry. Previously, in 1970s, the dowry used to be a shiny Vespa scooter.
I have heard that in many cases where an IT coolie is a prospective bride groom, the dowry is not a mere shiny Indian made car, but should be a foreign model- BMW, Audi a etc., even if the bride to be is well educated and holds a very decent job.
This si independent India. Jai Hind!!

  13. Sharath says:

Well, Mysore – Bangalore highway was never a scenic drive. Maybe it was 20 years ago, but not in any recent years. If one wants a scenic drive, then the recommended road to take would be Kanakapura road.
I think 75 mins drive time would be from Kengeri toll gate to Mysore toll gate near Columbia Asia. This would be around 117kms.

  14. G Narayana Gowda says:

Any amt.of surface transport by buliding roads cannot be a solution.Need of the hour is faster public trasport system.Istead if this elephantine project the railway net work should have been strengthened. After double track Electrification the commuting between Mysuru n Bengaluru reduced by almost an hour but for waiting for shunting at KSR Bengaluru.Faster public trasport is cost effective n lesser polluting.

  15. Shivraj says:

Nobody is highlighting the the TOLL charges for the Bangalore to Mysore highway. People are just happy chest thump about this achievement. Even people who don’t want the express highway will be pushed to use the tolled road by paying the Toll amount. Can the GOI provide an estimate of the Toll price for this road now itself.

  16. Puru says:

This is an interesting perspective by the person who posted this article. However, we need to appreciate the infrastructure being developed which is long overdue. Moreover, it helps in developing Mysore and decluttering Bangalore. It also provides enormous opportunities for Mysoreans in Bangalore with easy accessibility. There is a positive aspect in every thing and we should appreciate that as well.

  17. Dilip says:

Just because some ppl wants to enjoy the greenery & scenery they can travel country side that should stop from infra being developed. It’s already too late that we got an expressway (not fully greenfield still) in the name of saving environment. It’s high time SOM stop posting such articles derailing infra development.

  18. AKM says:

Perhaps the auther is worried about his business on Mysore road .

  19. Mysorean says:

Why is SOM even publishing such regressive views. There are plenty of roads to enjoy a leisurely journey. The author probably never had the constant frustration of using that abomination of a state Highway, it not had any family member sure in an accident! It’s such a risk to travel on that road and a NH is only going to save lives. Talk about linking in a well huh?

  20. Rahul says:

Can’t digest the fact someone as dumb as this author is writing articles !!! Facepalm

  21. Vijay kumat says:

I fail to understand this rigmarole of development vs quaint lifestyle…it up to each individual to make use of the facilities provided by the government…nobody stops you from using the old routes…if time is saved one has to pay for it…if a baker bakes a pie…some crumbs do fall down…one has to have the pie & not sworn of the fallen crumbs…it’s time people from this historic city grew up…

  22. Pawan V says:

What a comedy post this is? Greenery and leisure on National Highways ? Do you want to travel or do vacation on the Expressway setting up a tent middle of the road? Also 80KPH for economy? You really think that fuel saved from that lower speed is significant also for just the cars playing on this single expressway road compared to all the traffic in entire country? It’s a drop in an Ocean you’re trying to save. Looks like Star of Mysore is going out of business having this kind of childish articles, even 5th grader can do better.

All North Indian states have such good roads and connectivity with 120kmph limits and here people have problem with development too. As if other countries made their GDP better by everyone travelling at 80KMPH. Its a personal choice , also traffic conditions are not same always.
Instead if you talked about bullet trains I would be impressed.

  24. Nagraj says:

H.R Bapu sir, what a visionary you are. A big namaskar to you and your progressive thoughts.
A humble request from my side, please stop writing garbage

  25. Shantala says:

India/Mysore are copying America, where there are not many intercity fast trains, unlike Europe and the healthcare unlike Europe, is mostly private which fleeces patients, Like Americans, Indians are afflicted with car culture. This 10-lane highway nourishes that car culture.
Within a few years, this 10-lane highway becomes not adequate.
As for tolls, there will be corrupt practices which the toll operators demanding bribes to let the cars skip the que, and they will be quite rich. The official toll charges will keep on rising each year.

  26. Mayur says:

Actually this is timber mafia which is involved in cutting 100 years old trees in the name of raod expansion, forest department listed around 4lakh trees were cut for the project which is higest in any road project, did any one protested , same thing is happening now between mysore to madkeri what a loot of trees. Imagine to grow a full hard wood tree it requires 100 years but you can’t replace it any given point of time.
The author has just highlighted one issue but many small hotels will loose business since everyone move over bypass. This is a major hit to income of locals

  27. There wil be a 2 lane service road on either side of the expressway and it will be toll free. The one who wants to enjoy greenary in a leisurely way can enter the service road and drive at 60 speed comfortably.

  28. Raja says:

I recommend a leisurely Bullock cart card ride for Bapu Satyanarayana

  29. Mysorenava in BLR says:

177Km in 75 minutes? Or 110 km in 75 min? If former, average speed has to be above 140kmph. If latter, blr to mys time being reduced to 75 min from 3 hrs is misrepresentation of info.
Besides, there is no lane discipline in India. There is no guarantee of surprise vehicles driving in opposite side. A single pothole or a bump, encountered at that speed, can be disastrous.Any
One has to wonder how the claim of 75 min is being made

  30. Ppind says:

Author has not driven from Bangalore to Mysore. It is not at all a pleasent experience and you are not in position to watch any scenery as you have to always watch out for some idiot on the road . Author seems to have forgotten Time is money

  31. Puneeth says:

It’s a downside of any development.. as we lack decipline in every aspect.

  32. Fakeer uddim says:

What a dumb ass! If the highways are narrow and crowded, people compare it to a German autobahn and crib about it.

  33. Thomas Abraham says:

One can still drive at 80-90kmph enjoying the drive free of hassles, road blocks, cattle crossings and the rest
Save on fuel too if that is the main concern of the author
Good projects must always be welcomed

  34. Bullockgowdre says:

Go to a forest for greens. Use village roads n bullock carts for liesure. Leave modern facilities for those who want it.

  35. HSA Shankar says:

I did not know people in Mysuru can be influenced by OLD AGED YOUTH ICON. Marvelous article sir. So, you are ok with previous 4 lane road where, on Fridays B’lore to Mysore side and on Sundays Mysore to B’lore side lanes gets bummer-bumper traffic!? Does that help you with your greenary, pollution levels, driving stress, accidents, fuel economy?

Currently if you travel on this road,
    you will surely get BP.
Stop at various eat outs just for fun and you get fat.
Pollution is so much that there will be lung related issues.
People within city/town/villages enter randomly and drives as if they are not on Highway. You are in your highest mindset and probability of accidents are more.
With cities in between, people, animals, idiotic drivers, vehicle density, road humps, pot holes, you can never get fuel economy and safety is also at question.

All in all, you gave me a good laugh today. Thank you. Keep up

  36. Seena says:

You can always drive smoothly at 70kmph on the left lane of the road! I don’t think anyone would kick your car’s butt for that. Please care for those of us who need to save on travel time.

  37. K Jagadeesh says:

This Guy who wants Leisurely travel take a Bullockcart
He is a Crazy Guy from last era

  38. Ravi Nandhan says:

If we have bad roads it’s a problem, if we have good roads even then it’s a problem….should we go back to bullock carts era just to enjoy only greenery? Moreover, no one forces to move at a max speed….move slowly and enjoy whatever you like. Please allow other businesses to move better and faster and also bless people who frequently get organs from those who are brain dead using the signal free corridor which now will be even faster on this super fast highway.

  39. Thoo nin janmakke says:

What a dumb writer. I will regret my whole life for reading this news. Can someone give this genius reward for useless article. Uff give me a break.

  40. Vrushab says:

With all due respect, nobody is holding a gun at u to reach in 75 mins. Take your time

  41. CP says:

What a dumb article. Like I’ll travel from Bangalore to Mysore to enjoy the scenery. Besides 75 minutes is the least possible time one will take. It doesn’t mean that I’ll zip, zap and zoom to Mysore ! It means that I’ll have a free road to go at the speed I’m comfortable with and have no blockages due to jams or heavy traffic.
Regressive article…like the present mysore road offers you a scenic drive. If anything, the only scenery I look at is the bumper of the vehicle in front of me!

  42. Chandu says:

Thank god for small mercies, Saraswathi Purams H R Bapu Satyanarayana is not in Nitin Gaskaris team.

  43. Vasuki says:

The article title says downsides, but there aren’t any in my view, the 10 lanes do not force everyone to zip at 120km, if you are behind the wheel, you decide to go fast or switch to slower lane, I guess the article would have made sense if it had captured downsides due to unavailibility of contact numbers of puncture shops, nearest mechanic outlets, medical emergency services and how quickly they can be arranged vs the existing road etc… those are the ones that would be missed in expressway and invariably have to see it near tolls only

  44. V Kamath says:

Strange assumptions and equally brilliant conclusions !! Some people dont want luxuries, so be it but dont find silly reasons to subvert the positive impact to fellow Bloreans and Mysoreans (Even Mloreans) !!

  45. With all due respect to the writer, your thoughts are not progressive. You still have roads that connect through Karnataka villages, kanakapura to enjoy nature, and a commute to Mysore, about 3 hrs from Bangalore. Enjoy!

Please leave the fast lane for us who wants to commute to Ooty, Coorg, Wayanad faster. Your thoughts create unnecessary issues that should never exist.

Sir, people like you, try finding problems in everything, be it in the girl next to your door wearing a jean or someone making something to provide luxury to someone’s life. Again, if govt are not improving roads, we will hear from you.

God forbid you, me, and others all be healthy in our lives, but if an ambulance reaches Bangalore in 75 mins compared to 3 hrs to save the life of dear ones, you may finally appreciate the effort. Good day.

  46. Ashutosh says:

All these projects are only there to fill the pockets of the constructors.

Even a college kid can plan better. But when target itself is not the best plan, you get all such silly statements as zipping in 75 minutes.

  47. Satyanarayan says:

What a star of mysore….who are these people and kahan se aate hain ye log? When road were not good they complained for infra and when road is built they want leisure?? Looks like Indian liberals have a new address in Karnataka…yep..who asked you to zip at 120, in 6 lanes there are 2 lanes reserved for you on the left to drive at your 60 and also there will be a no toll road below the dedicated corridor for people who think they are uber tax payers by just GST…India is that’s why a land of interesting charmers…😋

  48. A says:

    Wat a stupid article..

  49. Chetan says:

This guy who has written this article should belong to a museum…. Just to make it known to people in general today this kind of dumbheads are still present in the society ….

  50. Dr. Kanthraju says:

What an epic waste of my time.
I thought that the downside would be heavy tolls or something of that sort. But instead greenery, mileage, crude oil.
The main point of the highway is to save time which is more valuable than crude oil. And nowadays there are electric cars so not even crude oil. Driving on a straight road. Would save fuel than driving zig zar or meandering roads.
And greenery?? Who said there won’t be any greenery.
Oh… I get it… This is like a beta news paper.
You put articles here to see if they are worthy of going into the papers. depending on how people respond.

  51. Livya Kukunoor says:

Downside is that Star of Mysore decided to publish such a regressive article.

  52. VSRM KASYAPA says:

The author is right. Correct speed for safety is 60 to 80 kmph.

  53. Satheesh says:

So much negativity in this article. The same person who wrote and people who commented negatively would have commented about lack of good roads. Now every toll user knows it takes less than 2 mins to cross a toll. Highways are so important for development of the region. I am sure people who talk negative about development are all RaGa followers.

  54. Mo says:

It’s just a self praise gimmic from Govt.. in real world to reach Mysore you hv to pass through multiple small districts which hv too many signals/interjunctions and crazy cross traffic.. just to mint money from Toll payers they are self praising

  55. Mo says:

It’s just a self praise gimmic from Govt.. in real world to reach Mysore you hv to pass through multiple small districts which hv too many signals/interjunctions and crazy cross traffic.. just to mint money from toll payers they are self praising and fooling us. They shud simply take tolls from highway as they are collecting tax from fuel

  56. Howdy, Modi! says:

    Hey Kanthraju s
    What are you doctor of?
No one forced you to read this mail, and howl waste of time! What a dim wit! You gained your title so cheap!
Do you have an electric car? How many miles your car battery lasts without recharge?
Petrol-driven cars have not disappeared even in Western countries. You live in a third world country.
As for saving time, highways like these soon get clogged up with cars, as with the fast increase in population in Mysore and Bangalore, more and more cars use this 10-lane highway, and and within a few years, these cars will be crawling along the highway.

  57. Questo says:

    Beautiful sceneries along this route?
This is not the Alpine/Rhine route in Germany, or the Yorkshire dales route in England, or Maine -Wyoming route in USA.
This highway is a very bad idea as this 10-lane would be inadequate within a few years. Could have constructed additional fast train tracks between the 2 cities, and strengthened the existing tracks to take a few more express trains per day. One could relax sitting in a seat, get the refreshments and read a novel ( Amazon Kindle or a paper back)
Even with the wonderful Autobahns driving a very good German car and sights presented in the Ruhr valley in Germany, nothing is so satisfying as sitting in the excellent coaches in fast trains, reading a bit and watching the sceneries most outside as the train sppeds but hardly felt inside , as everything is smooth..

    • hemanth says:

hey Germany liking guy, remember this is India, don’t want to enjoy India?? go to Germany. what a useless guy, asking people to build railways and more express trains , you know how many trains are there from banglore to Mysore?? 4 -5 trains on morning and inbetween afternoon 2 trains evening to night 4 trains, so how many more trains you want?? most of the afternoon and evening trains will be half empty cause it’s duty time, only afternoon and night trains will be full, especially on weekends, you know why?? trains are used by daily wagers(IT company workers) and middle class people for daily to travel to Mysore to banglore in morning and back to Mysore in night for work, these Mysore is not a good city for providing job, just a show off, no development in job sector.

  58. Mm says:

I beleive we must understand the fatigue with the current route. It takes no less than 4 hours to reach Mysore. With most of the vehicles in manual transmission, there is a lot of stress and beleive me there is no greenery being cherished. I beleive the fuel economy will be better with the new route.

  59. V Harish says:

    1. Avg speed of travel would be 117km/1.5 hrs, about 80km/hour.
    2. Old gen found it difficult to move from Ambassador to Maruti to Toyota. Likewise will travel on 10 lane road happily driven by their son/ daughters soon

  60. Gururaj says:

Seriously bro….get a life and go back to bullockcart days

  61. Koshy says:

Did nitin create plans for cycle lane here if all else fails!?

  62. hemanth says:

people who are saying 10 lane is waste, cause it will be useless after some years should start begging on road sides for their astrological predictions. first of all who asked?? 10 lane will be useless cause everyone will buy car- then why don’t your simple brain understand that it’s better than 4 lane, 10 is waste cause it will be filled with traffic in another 10/20 years so no use, bla bla, you know what will be useless after 10yrs?? you. you are useless today for typing long paragraphs wasting time, then you will be even more useless after 10yrs. one guy took jump from 10lane road to Ukraine war!! whaa wa, great minds, must belong in dustbin. go do your works and sleep stupid illeterates, giving your dumb, nobody asked opinions on free pages.

  63. Prassant V says:

My search for the worlds most pessimist author ends here.

  64. Ram says:

Such a regressive thought. You are ready to burn more fuel to travel extra km and long hours when compared to just zooming through the new world class road? Illogical!

  65. Sarangapani says:

Author has really gone mad. Height of negativity in accepting development. The whole of developed nations Germany etc has very good roads and lot of scenary to see around, that doesn’t mean that, to see the nature you have to keep driving slow and that causes accident. This article is utter foolishness

  66. Srini says:

This author must be travelling in trains so is clueless about the traffic condition on the existing Mysore-Bangalore road hence, penned such inane article. SOM should stop giving space to such “dodo” authors.

  67. Prasanna says:

It’s crazy even if it’s 20 lane highway U can’t reach Mysore in 75 minutes because there will so many Heroes on the wheels to show their vigor & valour

  68. Questo says:

    @hemanth
Where did I say, I live in Germany? I also referred to Yorkshire Dales and Montana-Wyoming.
You sound like the typical dim witted IT coolie, working in a IT sweat shop in Bangalore.
Before you post, read what the poster posted, before jumping to comment. I can understand, your brain is too small to grasp what is posted. Tough luck!
Within a few years, you will be sitting in your car crawling along the 10-lane highway!
You Indians breed like rats, and this 10-lane highway will not be enough.

  69. Anonymous says:

We should ignore this kind of people opinion and move on with the changes for good.

  70. PRAVEEN says:

No harm in having great roads where one finds safety and ease of drive. However, the flip side is the moment traffic enters the respective cities it will be a mess. It’s like pouring water from a bucket into another vessel with tiny opening.

  71. Nandini says:

Any change becomes hardly beneficial, if the demands for the resources provided i increase at a slow rate. It is not the case in India, because of its massive increasing population at a fast rate.
Reading the outburst of @hemanth triggered by a degree of jealousy, and not understanding the difference between travel and commute.
I am assuming , not having visited Bangalore/Mysore in recent years, that ahis10-lqne highway will not be for commuters like him from Mysore alone,, and that there will be large number of others joining the highway along the route: through by-lanes.:https://bangaloremirror.indiatimes.com/bangalore/others/mysore-road-a-closer-home/articleshow/90158817.cms
The above paper says plots are on sale along the route to Ramanagara ,which will expand into a city, as commuters to Bangalore take up their residences there. Chennapatna and Maddur will follow soon, and become cities.
With this mind, many posters have doubted how long this 10-lane highway be enough. To me, it appears not long-a few years at best
It is a singular folly that the car culture has masked the need for doubling the current train tracks between the 2 cities at the same time.
Eventually, commuting between Mysore to Bangalore for work becomes impossible. Pot holes along the way, Toll price going up fast, oil price sky-rocketing, car prices too etc.. etc.. negating any advantage
Hence, people like @hemanth should take this opportunity and buy a plot in a place closer to Bangalore .
Simply copying the US, to construct these highways becomes a futile exercise, as in the US, the population is just a quarter of Indian population, the rate of increase is slower and that each city/region, is developed to an extent to provide jobs, obviating long commuting distance.

    Hello Hemanth
How is your IT techie work, doing the massive coding for the outsourced work, your company acquired.
Meanwhile, the creator of the IT sweatshop like your company, Mr Murthy, originally a Mysorean, has mopped up a large swathe of houses in Jayanagar, Bangalore to house his new office, his son’s office and his wife’s office and so on, comfortably sitting on a couple of billion US Dollars of wealth. He is hardly travelling even in Bangalore every day! No necessity, when you can buy half of Jayanagar for offices!!
The so called ‘the small number of Infosys shares’ his daughter was given is getting her a dividend of 20 million US Dollars/per year, which has created a new controversy as her husband is the current finance minister of Britain9 (with a profile created by his father in law!) landing him in a political hot soup! Unlike in India, this will blow up.
All Murthy did was to use the exchange rate between USD and Indian Rupees, creating an IT sweat shop, by convincing the large IT companies in the US to get their software coding work cheaply done in Bangalore through his sweatshop , by employing numbers of IT techie coolies!
Mrs Murthy has recently a road named after her in Mysore! She is not commuting either. Neither their son, Rohan Murty, enjpying a slice of his daddy’s wealth! No sweat there!

    @mepratap –
    Dear Mr. Pratap Simha,

I am writing this message in regards to quality of the most awaited bangalore-Mysore Highway, which looks to be little inferior. It will be a pride of mysore to have a good highway infra which is a very important requirement for the development of Mysore city. The quality of drains, roads, medians looks to be not upto the mark quality in comparison with the one we had got 20 years back from earlier contractors. While We as common citizens also are not fully expert to comment on the final outcome, but an independent Enquiry/detailed observation from any private or government experts shall definitely impact the outcome. We know you are a responsible people’s representative, we trust you. Also the road markings, plants in the median – we expect it to be of International outcome. Please consider our request & take-up this so that we all can proudly say, it’s because of a great MP Mr. Pratap Simha, we got this excellent infra. My & your kids who travel on this road should be proud of it.
    Thanks & Regards
    A concerned Citizen of Mysore.

  74. Kishore says:

    Dear Author,
Sri. Nithin ji said it is possible to travel in 75mins, he did not say “YOU SHOULD TRAVEL IN 75MIN”. So, pls choose your speed wisely, since there won’t be potholes …… you will not be required to shift gears constantly. One last thing, you can choose to use the train / bus, it will be lesser drain on the global oil reserves. Jai Hind 🙏🏼

  75. Mann Ki Baat, Bisi Bele Baat! says:

    @Kishore
How fo you know there will not be pot holes within a year.? This is India, where there is no quality in anything!
As for not shifting the gear, wait until the highway traffic becomes intense within a year, and there is a toll queue.
So daft to believe Gadkari. What a chela in corrupt independent India!

  76. Dev says:

Sorry but this is a shitty article..
It’s not mandatory to reach blore in 75 mins..
You can still drive however it’s comfortable.

As for your comment ” Indians suffer from bad driving” , you don’t get to comment like that.
Blame the govt for shitty driving test which is based on money rather than skills
Blame such people and not Indians..
Also, it’s the shit roads that screws up the driving experience.

Address the real things and not your crappy opinion..

  77. Aruna Suryanarayana says:

Driving from Mysuru to Bengaluru was really Pain everywhere on weekends. have suffered a lot on wknd traffic starting from Srirangapattana itself towards bangalore. it was the same traffic jam we get all thru the cities till Bengaluru. Existing road was overloaded with this much traffic. was just enough for daily commuters but not for the weekend load. Having said that, building a good road which can hold this load and some more to come in future is a good step.

Further, we do have some leisure road which is thru kanakapura. this is scenic and good road as well. but problem on this route is no good eatouts or halting places to highlight one of many. with kids or elderly persons onboard, this rout is good for early morning commute rather than post 10 am.

Point to note as well is, they say shortest time slot to reach Mysooru from Bangaluru is 75 to 90 minutes. But nobody will force to do so. we can always drive at 60 – 80 kms speed and reach in 2 hrs or 2.5 hrs. which is descent.. with fuel economy as well. Enjoy the new road driving at left corner without any hurdles and issues. leave the mid and right most lane for fast and needy commuters.. is what i think of for myself.

  78. jhunjhunwalla says:

    @Aruna
What a car-loving fool you are! Use the train idiot. Good for the environment.
You Indians breed like rats, massively increasing your country’s population, destroying cities like Mysore beyond recognition through developments.
Such multiple lane road ways will clog up very soon with car driving idiots like you in very large numbers and what next?

  79. Kawakawaffoxgowda says:

    Hey Aruna
Travel by train , and save your pain. That simple, if you can exercise your brain. BTW, use proper English and not the text lingua!
Dismiss your car culture. Too many in India, adding one Australia every year through population growth and multiplying the car culture.
Indians loving the car culture, are destroying their country and polluting this planet too.

  80. XXXX says:

For Indians like @Aruna, car is a prestige symbol, and he will not take train like ordinary mortals! If he is an IT techie-doing the coolie work given to his company by large American companies as outsourced work, he would have demanded the car as a dowry from his father in law with an explicit threat!
When Russia normalises its relations with Europe, start selling its oil again, Modi’s discounted oil from Russia will dry up. The oil price will go up again and again .add to this the toll price increasing, the highway lanes full of cars giving massive pains to @Aruna’s backside, he may then start thinking of using the train.
Yes too many are bred in India, choking the country. The answer is the massive expansion of public transport, not cars. But then Indian leadrss want to ape USA-developing car culture, highways and private clinics fleecing patients, to show they are an advanced country. Where as outside India, people see India with its large pandemic deaths in hundreds of thousands for want of oxygen well their presented in media last year,, half of its population living in shanty towns ,people urinating and defecating in street corners in Mysore, stray dogs wandering with impunity ,threatening to bite the pedestrians etc.. as a massive third world dump!

  81. Kgn says:

Sure this type of article can come from a keralite only. Ban sports since it may reduce carbon footprint due to excess breathing.

  82. Manjesh says:

If we can get bypass road in 5 major towns between Mysuru and Bangalore this will save patience of People driving and commuting between both cities by using road. The local population of this towns can also leave at peace if the vehicle don’t enter the town’s. Addition to that this highway will consider future vehicle population commuting on this two cities.
The person who wants to enjoy leisure can still drive down to those towns and travel at slow pace. Not necessarily every one should hit 120 kmph.

  83. Sachin says:

Dear H.R. Bapu Satyanarayana sir of Saraswathipuram.
Thank you so much for stirring the hornets nest and galvanise the people to express their opinions and views.
This made very interesting, witty and humorous read while bringing out the different facets of human nature. Thank you.
Keep writing your mind and encourage others to express their views.

  84. Piyush says:

The author is drunk and is thinking that once on the highway, one has to reach the other end of it in 75 min. Second thing, one hour in trafic uses more fuel than 1 hour of cruising speed on highways. Its a 10 lane highway with hugh service roads. And the same may be access controlled too.

  85. Some Idiot says:

This DK Bose author should be forced to travel in donkeys.

In various US free ways 80 miles per hours is a common thing.

  86. Praveen says:

I do not understand why star of Mysore has resorted to such regressive and negative reporting…! It was always a charm as I remeber since my childhood days.. Days aren’t far you loose all your credibility and end up like NDTV. I do not follow SOM anymore. I happened to get this link in WhatsApp group and ended up on this page. Couldn’t resist commenting on such stupid reporting.

Editor… There are service roads . You can drive slowly and enjoy the drive , greenery without paying the toll. Make sure you upload a proof of your greenery enjoyment whenever toi travle between Mysore and Bangalore.

  87. Kawakawaffoxgowda says:

    @Praveen
It is : “lose”. Get your English spelling right, cell phone ignoramus.
