Mysore/Mysuru: Chamarajanagar MP V. Sreenivasa Prasad will unveil Dr. B.R. Ambedkar statue with dome (Gopura) at Ambedkar Colony in Kumbarakoppal at 12 noon tomorrow (Nov.7).
Announcing this at a press meet here on Thursday, Chalavadi Mahasabha District President M. Hamsaraj said that the Gopura houses a 9 ft. tall statue of Dr.Ambedkar in a sitting pose and also busts of Nalwadi, Buddha and Basavanna. The Gopura is 25 ft.in height and is built by Kumbarakoppal’s Sri Adishakti Kalikadevi Seva Samiti at a cost of Rs.17 lakh.
City’s CAVA (Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts) students led by G.K. Mahalingu and H.M. Harish have made the statue using steel and cement. A Library has been built adjoining the Gopura and the statue is painted in Gold.
Historian Prof. P.V. Nanjaraj Urs said that the dome has been built with funds raised by members of Adishakti Kalikadevi Seva Samiti, most of whom are daily wagers.
BVS (Bahujan Vidyarthi Sangha) District Convenor Ganeshmurthy said that T. Narasipur Nalanda Buddha Vihar’s Banthe Bodhiratna Swamiji will grace the occasion. Chalavadi Mahasabha State President K.Shivaram, MLAs L.Nagendra, G.T. Devegowda and N. Mahesh, KPCC Working President R. Dhruvanarayan, former Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa and others will be present. Prior to the event, a massive procession will be taken out from Town Hall to Kumbarakoppal at 9.30 am, which will be launched by Congress leader K. Harish Gowda.
