DVG Award conferred on Dr. Gururaj Karajagi

July 27, 2022

Mysore/Mysuru: Asserting that those who say all-time truth will remain forever in the minds of people, noted educationist Dr. Gururaj Karajagi opined that the thoughts and works of great personalities like Swami Vivekananda and D.V. Gundappa (DVG) will glow more with each passing day. He was speaking after being conferred with ‘DVG Award’ instituted by city’s DVG Balaga Pratishtana at a programme organised by the Balaga at Vijnana Bhavan in Manasagangothri here recently.

Recalling his association with DVG, who was a great poet and widely known for his masterpiece ‘Kaggas’, Dr. Karajagi maintained that the blessings of the almighty was needed for a meeting with great personalities, which he fortunately got.

Pointing out that apart from DVG, the almighty’s blessings also gave him an opportunity to meet literary giants such as Da.Ra. Bendre and G.P. Rajarathnam, Dr. Karajagi said he learnt a lot from these great personalities.

Asserting that DVG had engaged himself in societal service, he said that DVG was instrumental in the conduct of many widow marriages. Recounting an instance when DVG returned his wage in full to the erstwhile Maharajas when he learnt that only he had got the hike following Sir M. Visvesvaraya’s recommendation while none others of the then Prajapratinidhi Sabha had got it, he said this shows DVG believed in self-respect and a large heart was more important than money and anything else.

The life of DVG was much bigger than his literature and as such, the great writer will always remain in the hearts of the people, he added.

Continuing, Dr. Karajagi observed that though it is easy to hear the sayings of Lord Ram and Mahatma Gandhi, it is hard to follow them in life. DVG, who is remembered abroad too, will remain in our memories forever as his ‘Kaggas’ are often quoted even in the Legislative Assembly and many other platforms.

Mysore University Vice-Chancellor Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar, who spoke after conferring the award on Dr. Karajagi, said that everyone knows about DVG’s famous ‘Kaggas.’

Asserting that DVG is like the ‘Ashwathavruksha’ in Kannada literature, he said that Dr. Karajagi, who received the award, is known as ‘Nitya Gnana Dasohi’ for his talks and discourses.

Dr. Gururaj Karajagi and his wife Parimala Karajagi were felicitated on the occasion. Pratishtana Convenor C. Kanakaraju, Vid. G.S. Natesh and others were present at the programme.
