Anticipating law and order problem following the death of a farmer from Gundlupet yesterday, the Gundlupet By-poll Returning Officer (RO) Nalin Atul has clamped prohibitory orders under Section 144 Cr.PC across the constituency from 6 am this morning till 6 pm tomorrow evening.
Nagesh (30), a farmer from Kaggalada Hundi in the taluk, was picked up by Terakanambi Police on Mar. 24 for questioning following a complaint by a China-based flower (Chendumallige) company, which accused Nagesh of obstructing erection of the fence. Nagesh, who felt insulted, attempted suicide by consuming poison in the Police Station itself, following which he was rushed to K.R. Hospital in Mysuru, where he breathed his last yesterday evening. Sensing law and order problem following Nagesh’s death, the RO clamped prohibitory orders as a precautionary measure and accordingly, no political rallies, meetings or gatherings were allowed in the constituency.
Meanwhile, Nagesh’s body was brought to his native village under Police escort from Mysuru this morning. The farmers have decided to stage a demonstration in front of Chamarajanagar DC office by placing his body seeking justice to Nagesh’s family.
