Srirangapatna: An engineering student from Mysuru met his watery grave at River Cauvery in Balamuri, a popular picnic spot in Srirangapatna taluk in Mandya district on Wednesday.
S. Sharath (19), son of Shivaraju, a resident of Naganahalli in Mysuru taluk, is the deceased youth. He was a first year Computer Science Engineering student at Maharaja Institute of Technology (MIT).
It is said that, Sharath, along with his three friends, was playing in the water, before going to swimming. However, Sharath, who was not aware of swimming, started to drown, allegedly yelled at his friends in the river bank seeking their help. The bystanders, responded and jumped into water to rescue him. But, Sharath had consumed heavy water in the melee, resulting in his death, according to the public.
KRS Police, who rushed to the spot, shifted the body to K.R. Hospital mortuary in Mysuru.
The body was handed over to his parents, after conducting the post-mortem. The grief-stricken family members couldn’t control their emotions, while the friends who had accompanied Sharath to Balamuri, were left dumbfounded, following the tragedy.
